I use to eat jell-o (sugar free), now I don't know wether it is legal on Atkins or not. When I lost my weight in the beginning I ate it almost everyday, is it o.k. to eat it?

The store-bought SF Jell-o has aspartame as the sweetener, and aspartame is not allowed on Atkins. It is a common staller, for one thing. However, you can buy unflavored gelatin packets and make your own using Splenda. Hope this helps!

The Hunts snack pak gelatin cups are made with Splenda and have 1 carb for orange and 2 carbs for strawberry. I have had these a few times when my sugar is low and it does help. I have had it with whipped cream on top once when everyone else was having desert -- it tasted so good but was almost too sweet!!

The jello brand is made with aspartame but look for Hunts -- here is a link to a picture of them - I get them on sale for .99 a pak at Walmart or our grocery store.
Snack Pack Gel Snacks | Hunt's | Walgreens Be careful because they are made with fruit juice -- like I said before I use them sparingly.

Splenda and what? What do you flavor the home made Jell-O with? And wouldn't it be a question mark as to what might be causing a stall if you have the Hunts jello with fruit juice as Carole suggests? This always gets me confused, the fine splitting of hairs.

Take pork rinds. I have never read anything in Atkins about his take on pork rinds, but I read someone's posting that they should be limited to 1/2 cup (how do you measure 1/2 cup of pork rinds?). Where does this info come from? I do know Atkins wrote about avoiding aspartame because of a potential stall, but if you don't try it (after you've been losing steadily, of course) how will you know if you're one of those who will stall? As for heath hazards associated with aspartame, that, for me, would be a personal decision (mine is to not take the chance, but. . . .)

Thanks, Carole! Ever since I got busted, by you, as a matter of fact!for drinking Kool-Aide with aspartame, I've avoided it! I forgot it does come sugar (and AS) free!

I'd only have this recipe sparingly also -- I don't like the ingredient list on the kool-aid -- too many chemicals.

Aspartame doesn't stall me, but I'm trying to cut it out for the health reasons (it's been 4 days!)

I switched to the Hunts...I have one about every other day with a little whipping cream. I've seen people write about using lemon or lime juice for the homemade jello flavoring. Also, further down in Linda's recipe she mentions using Da Vinci syrup. I don't know anything about that...is it full of chemicals too? I couldn't find an ingredients break down on their website...

To give you an idea of the ingredients in the sugar free syrups - I have a couple bottles of different flavors -- here are the ingredients listed on them:

Torani Sugar Free Vanilla syrup: purified water, vanilla extract with other natural flavors, potassium sorbate and sodium benzdate (to preserve freshness) citric acid, zanthan gum, surlose (splenda brand), acesulfame potassium.

DaVinci sugar free pancake syrup: water, natural flavor, cellulose gum, zanthan gum, caramel color, sucralose (Splenda brand), sodium benzoate (preservative), citric acid.

I use the Hunt's snack packs. I don't use them often..maybe once a week, if that. That is one convenience item I use.

I found them at Price Chopper where I live. They have black cherry (which I don't like) and one that is the orange/strawberry pack (2 of each flavor). In the baking section with the boxed jello.

Kraft makes the ready made cups of different flavor jello with splenda.

The best part is the chocolate flavored whipped cream, I can't tell the different from choc whipped cream and regular ice cream.

The pudding didn't agree with me -- I'd rather make my own whipped cream than eat the chemically enhanced stuff Kraft adds.

My husband eats the Hunts Sugar Free Snack Pack's -- here are the ingredients in the chocolate:

water, matlitol, modified corn starch, nonfat milk, cocoa, vegetable oil, eruthritol, Less than 2% of calcium lactylate, artificial flavors, suralose, acesulfame potassium.

haha ya i wasn't talking about pudding..or whatever they're called...lol they are carb city. Although, 15 carbs isn't bad if you budget it into your daily limit amount. Depends how honest you can budget your diet.

I was simply mentioning the jell-0 cups :P

Aspartame is also an excitotoxin to the brain and can do more than just stall weight loss.
