  • Has anyone developed an intolerance to certain foods whilst on this diet?

    Hi,

I've been on Atkins for nearly 3 months and I'm quite happy with my success so far. The problem is I seem to have suddenly developed an intolerance to eggs and nuts and it's really limiting my food, especially the eggs as I relied on them alot for their versatility. I get a really bad stomach ache when I consume either, and just found out that even products that contain eggs or nuts make me ill.

I was just wondering if anyone else had had these problems and if it ever went away?

    Thanks

I too began having trouble with eggs. I went a few months without them and then slowly added them back in. So far so good.

You can develop an intolerance to any food that you eat too often. That's why it is a good idea to go up the carb ladder and give your self more options. Try not to eat the same food more than three times a week. There are so many egg-free options for breakfast and many options for snacks besides nuts. Both are way high on the list of foods that cause allergies.

If you start to have a craving for a food that is not known for being crave worthy, then you probably have built an intolerance or allergy to it. I knew that I needed to cut back on eggs when I craved them every meal and snack for a few days.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Wow, I never thought about that with eggs and nuts. I did develop a high sensitivity to soy and artificial sweeteners from being on Medifast. That lead to my whole foods lifestyle because so many commercial food products now contain soy (and lots of other chemicals). It makes sense though to not eat too much of any one thing.

I developed the same thing after a couple of years on Atkins. They made my stomach hurt terribly. I quit eating them, except for the small amounts cooked into other things. I went without them for about a year and a half and then added them back slowly. I'm thankful to say that the problem is gone and I've been eating eggs to my heart's content for the past four or five years now. I've heard that avoiding something you've developed a sensitivity to can sometimes solve the problem. It did for me. I wish you the best!

            Thanks everyone for their input

I can now add seeds to that list (agonisingly so) and I've only just started eating them a few days ago as an alternative to nuts. The same went for nuts, too. I'd only been eating them a couple days as a snack when I became ill. I dunno, I dont like it. My mother, who is a nurse, warned me that an allergic reaction can follow intolerance and I've noticed that just about everything carries a 'May Contain Seeds or Nuts' warning label. And Eggs, too, for that matter.

            This is just great.
