  • Atkins never ceases to amaze me!

Whenever I move to a new rung, I feel begin to feel nervous and anxious, expecting the scale to start moving up.
So far, it was only when I added in nuts that I stalled. I've since discovered that I can have nuts (in small amounts), but no more than once per week.
Last week, I moved up to rung 7 and thought for sure that having a peach or half an apple with my breakfast every second day or so was going to make me gain (or worse, make me crave sugar again). Wow, was I in for the shock of my life! I had been currently stalled and not really losing weight or inches for a few weeks. I wasn't gaining, so I didn't really worry about it (too much). I hemmed and hawed about moving up for a long time. Then I realized that yummy fresh fruit season only lasted so long. That got me moving!
Well, this morning I stepped on the scale and discovered that I'd had a whooshie I lost 3 pounds in one week! And NO cravings either - Yippee!
I just wanted to share this story to hopefully help others who might also be hesitant about moving up the rungs. Sometimes, it's all your body needs to kickstart the losing process again.
It's taken me a year and half (with a few setbacks and slip-ups), but I'm so close to goal and feeling better than ever!

I'm trying NOT to think about that!! Although I did get some in the beginning of the season before I started Atkins.

I'm actually looking forward to moving up the next few rungs to add those foods in. Hopefully I won't run into problems as I go. Right now I'm in the veggie rung which is pretty much like Induction to me.

Why are people hesitant to move up to the next rung? Does it really slow weight loss down that much?

Anyways, congrats on the whooshie and the 3#s!! And, great job in getting so close to goal!

Thats great, you have done so well, and you will be a big inspiration to lots of people on the board!
Im looking forward to my next rung which will allow me berries. I love moving up the rungs as i get to add new food groups and try new recipes! This way its easier to view this way of eating as a lifestyle change and not a diet, as you get so much more variety in the foods you can eat.

I can't wait for the "other" fruits rung. I have been eating berries and I just love it. I just now started the wine rung and I have only had it once. I will probably be here for awhile because it is not something that I drink that often. I will probably have a glass two nights a week or so. If I still lose, however slight, I will probably move on up.

It is really, really good to hear that weight loss still occurs at such a high rung! Do you know how many carbs a day you average at this point?

First of all, congratulations on your success.
Second, thank you for sharing with all of us lower rung OWLs that moving up doesn't mean not losing weight -- not to mention the possibility of a whooshie at the upper rungs! I myself have been trying my hardest not to eat every blueberry that comes in to my sight

Keep posting often - I know you have what it takes to make your goal.

I don't know if it's the same with others, but I was always so worried to move up because I fear the cravings, which would inevitably lead to weight gain. The best part of the Atkins WOE is the freedom from cravings. I used to be a yo-yo dieter and binger. Having control over what goes in my body is empowering and I never want to go back to feeling powerless about my eating habits again.
I've learned something in the last year and a half though. I'm not the same person I was. Not only did I undergo a physical transformation, more importantly, I underwent a mental one. I am stronger, wiser, healthier and happier. And it's all of these things that keep me from eating that piece of cake at office parties, or joining my honey, who has a naturally fast metabolism, in a junkfood pig-out. I am in control of me and it feels wonderful.

If I'm working out that day, I eat about 65-70 carbs. Otherwise, I keep it around 60. I feel good at these numbers and doubt that I'll ever be able to go much higher than 75 carbs in a day. Í've gotten pretty good at knowing carb counts, but still try to use fit-day on a regular basis.

Re: Atkins never ceases to amaze me!

Congratulations! I think I am afraid to move up because then I have something else I have to worry/look up/juggle. I am much more comfortable resting at around rung five. I generally eat ring four but once in a blue moon have a glass of wine. I am very wary of moving past this rung, especially since nuts and berries both caused portion control issues to come to the forefront. I have them under control now. I can only eat almonds unless I want cravings and I count them out. With berries I measure every single time because if I don't, and overeat, I am hungry all evening!

So the idea of moving to the next rung and starting in with this again isn't as comfortable as where I am now where I am in control and know my limits.

Although that is precisely why I should move up, isn't it. Else how will I learn?

It's not about the results. Its about the process.
