  • Just frying or more? n did u plan and prepare?

    Hi All,

    I have 2 questions please:

Im going to restart induction again after being ill.

Anyway i want to make sure what I have been doing was all correct, so my first question is this:

    1) Did you all plan your meals and prepare in advance?

    2) Most of my protein will come from fish, chicken and lamb (dont eat another other animal etc. Now i found steaming fish boring etc and what I did do was make currys of my chicken and fish and lamb days in advance, then bag them up into meal sized portions into freezer bags and freeze away so that I had protein sources ready and waiting, so in line with question 1 above did you all prepare like this too and perhaps still do?

    and

2b) besides frying (such as making indian style curries etc) what else can I do please?

    3) because isnt frying unhealthy?

    Thank you

Did you get and read DANDR 2002 during this break from Atkins?

I don't prepare "days in advance". I might eat what I cooked today the next day, but to prepare my meals days in advance and freeze them... no. Anyway, that's less important. If it works for you, there's nothing wrong in doing that.

Make sure you're eating enough fat. You need 65% fat and 30% protein during Induction.

    Braise, grill, stew, roast, poach...

Depends (e.g. on the oil you are using) and is a personal choice. If you prefer not to fry, there are other cooking methods, as I wrote above.

Depending on the dish I normally make extra and freeze things (like the stuffed green peppers on Linda's site) - that way if there are days I'm in a rush or just don't feel like cooking I have something that only has to be thawed and eaten. It's also a great way to make meals to take for lunches.

When I first started I bought a 15 lb. turkey-cooked it and ate off it for a few days (my family and I ate it - not just me...LOL). I don't like to freeze turkey because it looses it's taste. I've fried chicken thighs and frozen them - added a salad and sent them with my husband for lunch - by the time he eats the chicken is thawed and it fills him up.

We grill our meat and some veggies most times or fry them in Olive oil and butter. I have poached some fish but I'd rather have it cooked in butter for added fat and flavor. Like Georgiana said, it's a personal thing.

        1) Did you all plan your meals and prepare in advance?
No, I found that it took up to much time. I just made sure everything I used was legal and then after cooking divided it into the size portion I wanted. Very rarely was there anything left for the next day when my boyfriend was done with it.

Like I said I cooked for the day. If I had some left over I put it in the icebox for the next day.

2b) besides frying (such as making indian style curries etc) what else can I do please?
I personally love to grill or roast my veggies and meats. I add a little butter to the pan and seasons to the meat and then go for it. It gives a nice smokey taste. Above you mentioned you like fish. Have you tried steaming it in the oven with a little lemon juice, salt and pepper. It is really nice and tender.

        3) because isnt frying unhealthy?
I was never a big fan of frying things. I guess because my mother never fried things when for us when growing up. When I do use oil I tend to go for extra virgin olive oil, sunflower oil, or sesame oil. Depending on the oil you use it can be unhealthy.

I try to cook everything fresh but I always make sure I have SOMETHING legal in the frig in case I get in a time crunch (usually cooked chicken strips, cooked bacon, or sausage balls). If I'm on the run, I can pop them in the microwave for 30 secs and go. Do you eat turkey or only chicken? Here in the states you can find turkey sausage, bacon, hotdogs, etc...

I don't believe that frying is particularly unhealthy. I also believe that animal fats are all fine. The fats to avoid like the plague are trans fats.
