  • a complement and encouragement...

sometimes we get encouragement from some of the most non-expecting places...

I sometimes buy lunch downstairs in the cafeteria here at work - and I usually have 1 of 2 choices. The salad bar - or the sandwich bar...

Well - one of the main women who has worked the sandwich bar since I started here 4 years ago - she understands exactly what I'm asking for when I ask for a plain grilled chicken on lettuce (with some trimmings...) ulike some of the revolving people back there who look at me like i'm on crack for asking for a "sandwich" without bread.

Anyways - her name is Mary, she's an older woman, and she's just one of those people that makes you smile every time you come in contact with them - and while it may be a mundaine job she has - she ALWAYS has a smile on her face. :P

So today i went down there to get my "usual" a chicken breast on lettuce with a slice of pepper jack, onions, tomato, mustard...

After she handed it to me today - she stopped me and said, "I just have to say you are looking fabulous and to keep up the good work".

Stuff like that just makes me smile!

Have any of you experienced complements or encouragement from people you'd never usually think of?

when you do - appreciate the complement. unfortunately this isn't a society where they come that often...lol

Hey Keriann! Yes, I totally do know the feeling. I'm one of those that my weight hardly changes and my measurements hardly change but unbelievable people are seeing a difference. I think the most suprising to ME was my 10 year old daughter. She left for camp for a week. I went to pick her up and she was like "WOW! Mom, you've lost a lot of weight!" Wouldn't expect to hear that from a 10 year old I guess. )

      Re: a complement and encouragement...

Once I had to go to my daughter's school. Its a special ed type class mostly emotional disturbed kids, age 10. Gabby came home proud of me because the kids were a little awed because I'd lost so much weight. I was thinking, "I only had to loose 75 pounds!", but they really noticed I'd changed. Then Gabby said not to come by school much, I disrupted the class! lol But hey, they ARE a tough sell, if easily disrupted.

It took some time for me notice how much I'd changed. I ended up grabbing the biggest pair of old pants I had left and looking at them next to my new pants to get it. When you change slowly, its hard to remember where you were and realize where you are.

The most surprising confession came from my Grandfather, a doctor. I told him I did it on Atkins and he grinned. He said he and another doctor would bet money on who could loose weight faster. Grandpa said he did Atkins and won everytime and he refused to tell the other doctor his secret. So not all docs are anti-Atkins. lol

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

      1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
      2nd mini goal: 140!
      3rd mini goal:135!
      4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

I have always found that those comments from people I hardly know to be really encouraging. I don't know why that is. My family members do tell me I have lost weigth too but hearing it from more casual people is somehow more special. Maybe it is because I need outside approval. I don't know
Anyways one of the best comments I got was last spring when I was learning to learn and I was just shuffling down the street and a guy in a parked car leaned out and said "good for you" I thought that was wonderful. Made my day
