  • something that made me laugh

So my cousin asked me why I dont eat many carbs??

I explained to her that was my choice, and I just dont feel the need and that I am doing fine without them. She then proceeded to tell me that there is a pill that supresses the carbs when you eat. I have heard of those, and tried some of them many years ago at my SIL's house. Anyways finally I just said

I AM ALLERGIC TO CARBS. THEY MAKE ME FAT!!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!!!
That made me laugh, just thought I would share. Why does everyone always feel like they have to be up in your business??

    lol..good one.

Someone said something to me today about what do I eat besides meat all the time since I don't eat carbs. I proceeded to nicely explain to them that Atkins wasn't NO carbs and just what I ate. They were kind of surprised to hear I eat so many veggies. I also explained about not having sugar and not craving sweet stuff so much anymore. They were probably a bit sorry they ever said anything to me.

You know, I NEVER got any grief when I was eating a lot of starches, packaged/prepared foods from the grocery, sugar-laden foods and all other kinds of foods that make up the American diet. Now that I'm eating healthy, I get all kinds of grief. Everybody is suddenly a health expert.

I got grief when I was on South Beach and now that I am on Atkins...geezaloo, I only hear how awful it is and how it's so bad for me. Funny thing is not one of them can tell me why it's so bad for me but they are very insistent that it is. Along with my wallet card of foods to eat, I now carry around the little graphic of the Owl Rungs. I actually enjoy showing it to them while I ask "What's so bad about these foods?" The look on their faces: priceless! I do think they get annoyed with me though...probably because I am eating so much healthier than they are. And they know it.

That's a good point and so true. I don't know...some people seem threatened (and defensive) by things that are too different to them. Its not what they know so it must be wrong.

I will say that my one dr seems a tiny bit confused by it but also seems very open minded about Atkins and has never been anything other than encouraging to me. Its just the random comments and misconceptions out there.

At my last job, I was constantly having to tell people that I don't eat sugar. The reply was almost always "not even just a little bit?" To which I always replied, "I'm a diabetic and to me sugar is poison." That usually would stop the debate. At least it would stop it till the next time a load of doughnuts from Krispy Kreme was brought in. Then the whole thing would start again. At times I wish I had a sign to put on my desk which said...CAUTION DIABETIC DO NOT FEED SUGAR OR STARCH!! LOL!
