Re: Bacon, Bacon, Bacon
No, you cannot eat all the bacon you want, because then you will likely eat all the bacon you can. On Atkins you should eat only enough to satisfy your hunger, without feeling full/stuffed. So you cannot finish one pound of bacon just because it has zero carbs (or very few) or because you can fit more food in your belly. Dr. Atkins said that some of us need to relearn eating normal portion sizes and gave us strategies to help with this (check DANDR 2002).
And don't forget to eat your 3 cups of veggies every day.
Happy low carbing!

Re: Bacon, Bacon, Bacon
try like 3 slices of bacon every morning..try to read every package you buy and pick the lowest carb..don't cheat, drink water, drink the book and try to exercise at least 30 mins a day...(i love bacon too..but that much nitrates and processed food is not great for you 24/7)

If I do, will it make me lose weight faster?drink the book
Wow, Georgiana, you really are Miss Lightning Fingers.
Can I just say two things: 1) You have a beautiful name (on its own and because it's from my favorite book); 2) I've learned more from your posts than from anyone else's on this board. Thanks for always putting such thought into your replies.

Probably not induction legal, but maybe it works like using your book as a pillow to "absorb the knowledge" only taking that concept to an extreme....Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Thanks.
Shannon, I wonder if that's what Dr. Atkins meant when he told us:Originally posted by ShannonM View PostIf I do, will it make me lose weight faster?
Drink DANDR to put a little Dr. Atkins inside you...Originally posted by DANDR, Chapter 21, p. 281There is, unfortunately, no little Dr. Atkins inside you ordering your metabolism to take off precisely three quarters of a pound a day.
I'd be at goal in no time!

I love bacon too - and I revel in the fact that I can eat it (almost) everyday and still lose weight. I have one or two pieces for breakfast, and occasionally will crumble a piece into my salad or make John's Garlic & Bacon green beans. As Georgiana said - you can eat as much as you want - as long as you are following all of the rules.
On a side note, we had dinner with neighbours at the lake - we just make our suppers at the same time & bring our plates over & eat together once in a while. DH & I had thick pork chops, grilled; fresh green beans with butter; peppers, onions & zuchinni sauteed with herbs & garlic. My hubby had yogourt with DaVinci syrup for dessert. They could barely believe we are on a diet

Re: Bacon, Bacon, Bacon
You guys are too funny!
Hi Johnathan! Everyone is absolutely right...count your bacon carbs carefully. BUT, I bet I ate about 3 lbs of bacon the first week. Induction is about breaking our old habits and getting into ketosis. If bacon is going to get you there, do it! You will soon see your appetite decrease and craving go away - not just for sweets, but really all food cravings (like Bacon!) too. Good luck!

I eat 3-3 slices every morning.I eat the fatty kind from costco.None of that lean turkey stuff for me.Love it and since I have given up eggs on a trial basis, it is my Bfast.I save the bacon grease and cook hamburgers with it.

Just curious Phil. Why have you given up eggs.
I love bacon too. It goes well with everything. Bacon fried cabbage is one of my favorite things

I love eggs.Have quit eating them for the time being as I am experimenting to see if bacon alone will hold me longer before hunger sets in.i eat an early Bfast (6am) and it is usually 12:30 or so before I have a chance to eat anything else.Seems bacon alone jeeps the hunger away a little longer but nothing significant.Doing the same thing with cheese with oyjer meals.Getting the maximum mileage out of my fuel.Obsessed? Yes I am, but loving my new body and want to keep it lean.

Re: Bacon, Bacon, Bacon
I just LOVE bacon!!
I get uncured bacon which doesn't have any nitrites, nitrates, sugars, MSG or preservatives. Flavor is still the same but it doesn't seem as salty. Much healthier choice than the regular, cured kind.

I'm just curious where you found the "wonder" bacon. I got nitrite-free, MSG-free bacon from Whole Foods and it STILL had sugar in it. Incidentally, I bought it before I decided to do induction, so I ate it without thinking about looking for sugar. Today, I went to the store and picked up sugar-free bacon, but it has nitrites! Ugh! I want to get the kind you spoke of. Please let us know
