  • GO-Diet/Four Corner Diet??

Anyone ever heard of/or done either of these diets? I understand that they are low carb. I ordered the books for the recipes, I'm an avid low carb recipe collector, especially when I can get a book for .75c!

I haven't heard of either of those... but I, myself, am checking into the Glycemic Load by Rob Thompson. I stumbled across it from another thread talking about some other diet as well. What I understand so far is Dr Thompson credits Dr. Atkins alot on his theory and he takes it one step further. Don't know enough about it to "describe" it to you really, but the main idea is looking at how food processes over a 24 hour period.

What I do know is things like carrots which is higher carb and high glycemic index actually has a lower glycemic load. And I know for myself (although technically I say I'm on extended introduction) I have at carrots and butternut squash and still loose... however, some other things that I should be able to eat can cause me to stall or gain...

He has a cookbook as well, so you may want to check that out. The reason I'm even thinking about reading it seems to be a more updated version of maybe what Dr. Atkins would have discovered if he was still alive..

Dr Thompson does not believe in ketosis. His diet is low fat and low calorie. I kind of think that was NOT the way Atkins was heading. Atkins is a fat guy (and I like it)
But I have read Thompson and the cookbook. I thought they were good. And I really believe the glycemic index and glycemic load is a great tool for us as we move up the ladder and start to introduce more food.
I don't think that is the same as the GO diet but I could be wrong.

        Re: GO-Diet/Four Corner Diet??

I have heard of both of them, never done either. GO is the original diet and Four Corners is the updated rendition. Both preach that sugar and saturated fat are the enemy. They are not as low carb as Atkins, but fairly low carb. They push monounsaturated fats and high fiber. It is not a bad diet for some, but it wouldn't work for me.

Saturated fat is not bad fat. We need saturated fat for many body functions. I do believe monounsaturated fats are very healthy, but we need to consume both.

The recipes are probably good, because they will have lots of fiber. When I am working up low carb recipes, I have to really think out how to get healthy fiber into the recipe.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Thanks so much. I didn't read it only what I found on-line and was debating ordering the book or going over to the next boro and checking out the book from the library... Glad I didn't waste the drive. I definitely want the FAT!!! Even my lovely salad yesterday had alot of fat to it... and so divine, regret I didn't take a picture of it.. so yeah, no can do there.

I was just fascinated by the idea that so many things I can tolerate were low glycemic load items... even chocolate... I have questioned 1000 times why it seems like a plain piece of chocolate is fine for me and it doesn't interfer with weight loss.

If the too of these Dr's worked together I bet something that is great could become even better!!

            Thanks for the feedback all!

I, too, believe that all fats are good fats and all sugars are bad sugars! Follow the money, people, follow the money!! As long as food manufacturers have the big advertising bucks, it's going to continue to be a struggle before the "establishment" recognizes low fat, high carb eating for the killer it is!
