  • Second time around

This is just a long rant but I need to tell somebody!

My wife has been pressuring me lately now that my surgeries are over and things are about back to normal to start on Atkins again. She SAW the results that I achieved but I didn't have her cooperation and I kinda slid off track after some surgeries that I had to have.

So now as of tomorrow (August 10th, 2009) my wife is wanting to start Atkins and she asked me to do it with her since I've been through the starting stages (5 months of induction and 50lbs later). I of course agreed as she has been talking about it for some time now! She is a little discouraged that she can't have Cottage Cheese but she is ecstatic that she can make a form of Tuna Salad.

The one thing that we're making which isn't approved for induction (i'm willing to take that chance) is Beet pickled eggs.

I missed this community and I really can't see HOW I turned my back on it the first time! I guess we can make that up by becoming supporting members...

As I type this her mother has signed on to support her and one-upping her with a 1 year challenge of weight loss to see who can lose the most weight! This is great.

I guess I'm just looking for a virtual pat on the back or some kind of pity that I'm doing the right thing.

    Thank you all!

I am going to tell her more about it soon! I also want her to read the book so she has a deeper understanding than I can just tell her and there are things that I have had to forget from it so it wouldn't hurt for me to do the same.

I also want to try and gradually get her to join fitday.com. I know when she made a half-attempt to join me in Atkins the first time she didn't want to read the book or follow it to the letter so this time I'm just gonna move slow and gradually into it. It's better than our normal fast food 1-3x a day.

Thank you for the reply it is greatly appreciated!

        slow is always ok
Maybe she will see you lose and want to do it the right way too.
I am going to order the book again, and read it, as I am sure I have fogotten stuff too.
we were in to fast food, only because everyone needs to be driven and has such totally different hours, it was just easier to buy it on the run. But its not good for me, and no more.
Keep in touch and let me know how your doing

Show this to her -- it's the recipe site links -- to keep "legal" you'll have much more success using these recipes. Use sweetner in your pickled eggs in place of real sugar and you shouldn't have much trouble with them.

Make a copy of the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and make sure EVERYTHING you are putting in your mouth is on the list...if it isn't on the list you don't eat it. Make sure you don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”). We count "net carbs" (carb minus fiber = net carbs).

Your wife probably won't loose as quickly as you do, women normally don't so when she gets discouraged it would be good for her to have a copy of the list, a copy of the book to read and support from family, friends and this site.

Make sure you both start exercising today - Dr Atkins said exercise is mandatory! Drink plenty of water -- 64 ounces minimum daily is suggested - that's PURE water - nothing added! Decaf coffee is ok but regular coffee may cause blood sugar spikes (which causes cravings).

Good luck to both of you.
