  • Am I failing at Atkins?

Hi! Don't mean to sound depressing on a Monday Morning but well - I am feeling blue!

Since June 24th I have lost 10 lbs only ......even though I am in extended induction. And for the last 2 weeks.....I keep putting on and losing the same 3 lbs over & over again.

Could I be the first failure on Atkins?

It seems like it is not working for me. What should I do?

PS: Am eating 20 net carbs
    Drinking water
    1/2 hr swimming 3 times a week
eating 2 cups salad + 1 cup broccoli
    Tracking on fit day.
    Not losing inches either

    THANKS!!!

Why not try going on to OWL. I lost nothing on extended induction so after a week I moved on up and started losing again. Also make sure most of your net carbs are from the veggies you eat.

I absolutely agree - move on to owl. Induction is really only used to get you "started" and to help you get rid of your sugar cravings.
Also - once you've moved up to rung 1 you will add more vegees - which is what your body NEEDS!

And as far as "only" losing 10 pounds...in the past month and a half - that is FABULOUS! Going up the rungs will help you lose even more! Don't be afraid of owl!

I've been doing this now for a little over 30 weeks - and I'm literally averaging ONLY 1 pound per week. But i am doing the steps - going up the rungs when I feel like I should - and 30 weeks ago I wouldn't have imagined that I'd be 30 pounds down by now!

You CAN do it. NO you are not "failing" at atkins. Get the "failing" mindset OUT of your mind. If you think you're going to fail, you will. It's as simple as that.

You have to retrain your brain to positively think about yourself AS WELL AS retraining your brain to learn how to eat right.

You CAN do this. Just be patient and follow the book!

Yep. What the others have said. 10 lbs in 6 weeks is great --- almost 1.7 lbs lost every week!

Are you getting over half of your net carbs from veggies? You say you are eating 20 net carbs, so without knowing what your salad veggies are, I am guessing you have quite a few carbs that are not coming from vegetables.

Are you also taking a multivitamin? And did you check with your doctor that you don't need any additional supplements?

You might also consider that you could be intolerant to some foods, even "legal" ones. Can you examine your fit day records and see any patterns as to what foods/amounts you ate before the weight gain? Also salt bothers some people.

I had a three month plateau of 156.5, but started losing again and have lost 7.5 lbs since July 25th. Don't get discouraged, the weight will come off. I am drinking two cups of green tea a day with a teaspoon of lemon juice, the scales started moving again after I added that.

You might also want to think about whether you are eating enough. Since the diet causes a suppression of appetite, you might not be taking in enough protein/fat to encourage your body into letting go of its fat stores...

Re: Am I failing at Atkins?

I would say that 10 pounds in 6 weeks if far from failing! It's pretty doggoned good! You have to have a little patience until your body settles in. It will happen soon!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
