  • Avocado Question For Dinner Tonight

I know we're allowed a half of avocado each day on induction and beyond but nowhere does it state what the carb contents are and if I have to include them in my daily carb allowance...does anyone know??
Starting over one bite at a time!

Yes, you have to count the carbs. You can look up the carbs for any food in any carb-counter, the one at the end of DANDR, Fitday.com, etc (remember to take total carbs - fibre to get Net Carbs).

You can find the carb contents of foods by going to www.fitday.com

You have to count ALL carbs each and every day.

I used the figures from FitDay. They have listings for the big Florida avocados as well as the smaller California Haas ones. What I've found is that a half avocado is different each time so I have to guesstimate the portion.

Because they are so fat dense, I'm thinking that we're supposed to have a small portion.

I thought that we were only allowed the smaller (HAAS) avocadoes, per DANDR...did I dream that?

For induction it calls for 1/2 (small) avacado. So yes, it would be a Hass avacado.
If it were the larger of the two(Florida), you could 1/4 it and be alright with it.

Repeat after me: "Because avocados are so fat-dense is why they are so good for me and the very reason why Dr. Atkins lets me eat them!" LOL

It's hard to get past thinking fat is evil, isn't it?

Now you did it. I want an avacado now. I might have to go buy one for breakfast.

I finally, after many times trying, learned to like avocadoes. So what happens? They double and triple in price over the last couple of months. I bought them over the winter anywere from 58 cent each to 99 cent each. Now they are almost $2 each at Wal-Mart and nearly $3 each at better stores! And, of course, I am wanting one like crazy!

Isn't that the way it goes. I didn't like them for a long time and now I love them. I love the texture. You just know that you are eating something decadent.

I buy avocadoes at ALDI -- they are .79 each (Haas) and within a couple days are ready to eat and lucious!!! I have NO problem eating them I grew up having them mashed on bread and butter as a sandwich...yummy!!

2 or 3 dollars per Avocado. That is outrageous! I got some at Walmart for 33 cents the other day. The price must depend on what part of the country you are in, I am in Arizona. I am so sorry for your Avocado racket up there. Its such an amazing fruit or vegetable. Maybe you could get a deal at Costco or Sam's club.

We are allowed 1/2 small avocado, but avocados are listed in the "Special Category Foods", so be sure they do not slow down or stall your weight loss. Also have some protein with that meal, or you will likely be hungry soon after dinner.

I went to the grocery store last night and refused to pay $1.99 for an avocado, even though I really wanted two to make guacamole while I have fresh garden grown tomatoes, garlic and hot peppers. Today, I look at the sale flier for this week (starts on Wednesday) and they have them for 99 cent each! Oh, happy day!
