  • Cashews are evil ...

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to this board but Im etremely happy to have joined it. I have had several attempts to go on Atkins and I always end up cheating and feeling guilty afterwards. For me cheating does not mean sugary junk foods, but nuts ... cashews in particular. They are the devil!!! I cannot possibly explain to myself what it is so special about those little bastards that makes them so irresistible
I go on the diet and be good for about 2 weeks and then I happen to have a HUGE craving for cashews and I cannot stop myself eating the entire bag, which most of the times weighs about 14 to 16oz. It's horrible! Screw the sugar, screw anything else but those cashews ((
Does anyone know what's going on? Is my body trying to tell me something? I am confused and frustrated at the same time because I cannot reach my goal because of tjose stupid nuts ... or legumes whatever. I still have about 25 lbs to lose and I'm starting to lose my patience little by little and get discouraged that I'm never gonna go back to my goal weight. Thank you all for your support!

    Re: Cashews are evil ...

I think a lot of people have a food or two that affects them like that. A lot of people have issues with maintaining control with peanut butter, for example. For me, it is ice cream. I am passed the dairy rung, and skipped adding ice cream or frozen yogurt...because I'm not sure I could control myself. I don't keep it in the house, I've even started driving home a different way to avoid seeing the Dairy Queen...

Banish cashews from your home and ban them from your life...don't let nuts stop you from reaching your goals!!!

I haven't really had a food that I craved like that, atleast not yet. I can tell you though that when it was TTOM I so had to have spicy cheese dip (home made) like every night. It was calling my name and it tasted so good. Mind over body right?

OHHH peanut butter! I used to have no self-control when it came to it. I simply stopped buying it and now that it's gone from my life, I don't crave it anymore. I'm sure if I ever decide to taste a teaspoon though, I'll go overboard. I wish I had the same power over nuts. It is so strange how certain foods can control our lives ... I should start a challenge between mind and body and see who wins

Somebody's gotta buy those nuts... who would that be I wonder?

I can't go to the movies because the smell of hot buttered popcorn would drive me insane...

The best way to overcome a craving addiction is to separate yourself from the food entirely... don't buy it, don't have it in the house... don't shop down that aisle...

A hypnotist would tell you to imagine that cashews are little slugs and you would shiver when you think of them...

You aren't gonna let a little nut beat ya are ya?

Yes, somebody has to buy them! I've noticed they always go on sale; I think they're doing it on purpose so I wouldn't have doubts about whether to purchase them or not

                      Re: Cashews are evil ...

I think that "cashews are crack" crack is closer to reality than we would like to think!

For any of us with "trigger" foods, the only sensible approach is treat the food as if it is crack...or heroin, or some other well-acknowledged highly-addictive substance. And then stay the heck away from it...no nibbles, no 'just this once," no "but I really need it"!

If a crack addict said such things, we would be laughing at them, wouldn't we? Sometimes it just has to be all or nothing?

Trigger foods = drugs! It makes so much sense ... Run for your life!
Since I don't drink alcohol, I always think of people addicted to it and cannot understand why it is so hard to give it up. Now I know ... I have a food addiction! It is so sad how our society today does not regard food as fuel only, but rather as pleasure. Bad food affects one's energy so much ... I always feel like crap after I eat something forbidden! And certain foods should be forbidden not because someone said so, but because one truly believes in the power they have over the human body!
I guess we ALWAYS have to keep in mind that NOTHING tastes better than the feeling of being healthy and looking wonderful!
P.S. I often find myself binging on foods that are legal and I then make up a lame excuse : "but it's healthy !!!" well ... in the end it all comes to portion control and will strength. Even if it's healthy, don't buy it 'cause it's gonna deter you from reaching your goal!
