  • Help with Extendbar and GoLightly Candies

Hi, I searched on the net for these but not sure if they are allowed for Atkins so I'm posting here.

    1) Extendbar says it only has 1net carb, but besides sugar alcohol it also has "uncooked cornstarch" and "Glycerine". Does these carbs count when doing Atkins?

    2) Golightly contains 15g of hydrogenated STARCH hydrolysate. Does this count as well?

    Many thanks!

Neither of those is allowed on induction since the ingredients aren't on the list of foods acceptable for induction.
You have to count ALL CARBS, no matter what they are in, on Atkins.
FYI - We follow Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 Edition on this board.

During induction you eat foods only on the acceptable food list - there is a reason for that - and the reason is to rid your system of the foods you have additions too -- ie: chocolate, candy, cakes, pies....SWEETS.

Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Wow they had a lot of sweeteners in them. I read the list of ingredients on line
Soy protein isolate, maltitol syrup, uncooked cornstarch, glycerine, chocolate liquor, arabinogalactan (fiber), milk protein isolate, maltodextrin (fiber), oligofructose (fiber), sunflower oil with tocopherol, cocoa, rice starch, natural and artificial flavors, salt, sucralose (Splenda), soy lecithin
        .
So the bar is some soy with sweeteners and artifical flavours basically - whole lot of chemicals. Real food works best. Are you looking for snacks or convenience? Maybe we could help with some suggestions.

Thank you all for the quality reply!

I'm actually not in induction now. And yes I'm just shopping for some sweet snacks. In my area, there's very few shops that sell low carb food, so that's why I would want to try anything available.

Of course I can buy online but the shipping charge is killing me

Are there any grocery stores in your area? Meat, fish, poultry and vegetables should be fairly easy to find.

The real Atkins WOE is not about frankenfoods. Thank goodness for that!

So are you at a particular rung? Have you used the carb ladder?
Is this sweet thing that you are in control of. I think having a snack once in a while is fine but not if we are not in control of the process.
If you want something sweetened - perhaps making some legal cookies (depending on where you are on the rungs) some cheese cake - the mock danish - pumpkin with cream cheese and splenda and cinnamon. Have you tried some of those?

Not yet but I think I really should! And the thing about Extendbar is that it is printed on it "1 Net Carb"! And I think we all know how sensitive we are when we see Net Carb. So it's a sure NO NO for both items?

LOL... I'm not sure how many more ways we can think of to say - NO, THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED. Maybe occasionally in Maintenance after you've been through the rungs, but why spend money on that crap?
