  • So tired!!

    Hi there everybody,

I was just wondering if anybody could tell me why on earth I am so darn tooten tired?

I just started the induction yesterday, and could feel it already. Today I am completely pooped, to the point where I am too scared to drive.

So what's the deal with this?

    Thanks!
    Linda

Perhaps you are not eating enough carbs? Try to add some carbs, such as a tomato, a bit of cauliflower etc.

Are you giving up junk, such as caffeine? Are you drinking at least 64 oz. of water each day? Could you post what you are eating, including amounts?

Are you taking vitamin supplements? The plan itself is quite nutritious, but Dr. Atkins suggested the supplements because most who need to do this have had rather unhealthy eating habits prior to starting this WOE.

        Re: So tired!!

The first time I did induction -- this is my second time around -- I was absolutely exhausted the first few days. The energy it took to brush my hair just wiped me out to the point I almost needed a nap.
Give it a few more days. I probably wouldn't add more veggies just yet. By day five or six, you should have renewed pep and feel A-OK. You're body is adjusting.

          Re: So tired!!

Thank you so much for the replies.

This morning I only had cheese and eggs for breakfast. I didn't realize carbs (or lack of) could have such an effect on ones system. So, I had some turkey and cheese with a whole tomato for lunch, and I feel much better! Can actually take care of my kids now )

I'm drinking less coffee. Used to drink about 6 cups a day, with milk and sugar. Now I'm at two cups, black and bitter.

Haven't started taking a multivitamin yet, but I suppose I should start that asap.

I'm actually surprised how many veggies we are allowed to eat! In fact, I'm only now realizing how unhealthy my diet used to be, because I am eating more veggies on the induction than I used to eat before I started the diet! Incredible!

            Re: So tired!!

It is entirely possible your fatigued feeling has to do with your prior diet and that you really need to supplement. Also, if you have drasticly reduced the caffeine, you are likely to be experiencing withdrawal. It will feel sooo good when it stops hurting and should give you some clues that substance in quantity is really, really, not good for you. If you are following induction rules closely, eating only the allowed foods in the prescribed quantities, drinking your water faithfully, then you are flushing your body of the bad stuff and truly feeding it. You'll feel better once you clear out all those toxins.

Carole gave you some vital links in this post: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ml#post1111187

A clean induction is really important for giving you a kick start and it will also determine whether your metabolism is fast or slow. This WOE, done properly, will help you feel better than you have probably felt in years. Do it right and you'll be so glad you toughed out the early days.

Try getting some veggies in each meal - they will help keep you full longer and keep your blood sugars from spiking and plumeting. If you are hungry eat protein dipped in mayo or something like celery with cream cheese -- get some fats into you to keep your energy up.

OMG, when I first read this when I started Induction well, the thought of dunking a hunk of chicken or whatever in the Hellman's jar just made me want to gag. Sorry.

It was a good idea though...just not my visualized method. So, what I did was buy one of those big cans of chicken breast meat in water and made up a chicken salad with chopped celery in it. Whenever I needed a little pick me up, I would eat a big spoon of it and when I wasn't being such a savage standing there in the middle of the kitchen with a spoon in my hand, I would plop some on a lettuce leaf (the soft butter lettuces are nice), roll it up and pop it in my mouth.

p.s. works with tuna or canned salmon too.

Make sure that you eat your 3 cups of veggies/day. Try to get in some of the more nutritious ones as well (less lettuce, more 'real' veggies). I'd guess that within a week you will feel much better - the first few days are a bit rough, but they pass

                    Re: So tired!!

when you start the diet your body switchs from a glucose burning metabolism to a fat burning metabolism

the switch can take awhile while others do it quick but thats why its called 14 day induction

to make sure the switch is going as fast as it should make sure you do this

eat lots of fat try and aim for a % of 65% fat , 30% protein , 5% carbs

and drink lots of water too you need extra water while loseing weight

                      Re: So tired!!

Make sure you are getting enough water. Dehydration can also cause the listless feeling. Are you taking the recommended vitamins as specified in DANDR 2002?

You may feel listless for a few days until ketosis kicks in and then you will have energy.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.
