  • Weight is coming off every where except arms!!

    Hi everyone! I'm having great success on Atkins- been doing induction little over 2 months and started at 171 now at 156. I've noticed my weight loss everywhere excpet my upper arms where I'd like to see it the most! Anyone else experience an area their not losing on- any advice? Thanks!

    What kind of exercises are you doing?

    Personally, I'm older than dirt, so my skin hasn't been as resilient as some who have lost weight. But I'm still happy. Despite it all, I'm working out with weights and nautilus equipment. With all the emphasis on the Michelle Obama's arms, you may want to google her exercise routine.

      You can firm the arm muscles with exercise, but the fat will only leave when your body decides.

      For me, it's the spare tire around my midsection. Even way back when I weighed less than 200 lbs I still had love handles and gut... so I'm pretty confident that will be the last area to go.

      There just isn't anything you can do about genetics.

        When I was at 160 my upper arms still were really fat...now at 150 they are starting to look pretty good! I am working out with 8 pound weights and using the Gazelle every day for 22 minutes, but things are finally starting to tone up.

          Yup, but in time (it will take longer than you like) the body will assimilate the fat pockets from stubborn areas. Honestly, it can take up to many years to lose those last bulges.

          Genetics is about 20% of the grab bag, from what I read. The major part is diet. Many, like the late-great Vince Gironda stated that physique transformation is a whopping 90% diet.

            For me the areas that are the hardest to lose are also the areas that I first gained weight in when i starting becomming overweight. So those areas have been on me for a long time. LOL Your body will release the fat at some point but you may need to be very patient.

              It won't help you lose the fat there, but it will help you feel and look better if you do some weight lifting that focuses on biceps and triceps. Don't go for very heavy weights, but for more reps and sets for basic toning. Push ups are good too (modified, or against the wall)

              That and you will feel stronger lifting things.

                Actually, my arms are where I've toned up first. I've been doing very light (2-3 lbs) bicep/tricep centric exercises. Just 3 sets a day of 3 exercises. My tummy, on the other hand, still looks like I had my babies last month! I'm definitely signing up for the stability ball challenge next month!

                  When I joined one of these weight-loss companies, they told me that I'll lose weight first in the areas where I gained last. So, maybe the weight went to your arms first when you started gaining? This was true for me. I lost my belly fat first.....and then gained most of my weight back with my second pregnancy.

                  Just keep at it. Eventually it will come off.

                    Sometimes it does takes months and months for you to lose those last bit of bulge you've been wanting to get rid of since the first day you've started successfully losing weight. But i've seen way too many instances where that isn't the case. So I think most likely you need to change up your routine all together. Your body isn't responding anymore to the same ol things you used to do working out. Change up the cardio you do and pick out a new strength training routine. That should give your muscles a good wake up call. Pilates, Barry's bootcamp dvd will kick your butt but its worth it, or anything new. Variety is the spice of life! Im no personal trainer but these are things ive read about and have done in the past. Its time to go to the next level so maybe a gym memebership and asking one of the personal trainers to help would be nice. Otherwise, just wait awhile eventually it will come off!! What are you doing right now???
