  • Okay I Need Help, And I Know This Maybe A Stupid Question

    but....
I'm confused. I recently went to sears to get some new pants for school which starts Friday (yay for me) And there were no pants in the womens section so I went to the missus department and got a pair of size 16's and they seemed tighter than they should be. Then I went to JC Pennys and they had 16W. Now growin up my great gramma always told me that the W stood for wide. Now I'm coming to the realzation that may not be the case. HELPPPP!!!

I always thought the 16W stood for womens. A size 16 can be found in misses. A size 16 is smaller than a 16W but if you are trying on different brands you can wear different sizes. Right now I have some 16's, 16W's and some 18W's I'm wearing. They are all different brands though.

I can wear several different sizes at once too - the different brands are all slightly different in sizing. I just buy what fits (if anything fits)

I worked in retail for several years, the W means women. I find that different brands always fit a little different.

No kidding! I would never have bought them even if I was wider when I bought them.

Wow this is news to me lol. I thought that also, that the W meant wide.
Crazy how misunderstood info gets passed around.

Atlast, what I always thought... the "W" does mean women... wide women So it is true, our bodies as women can be a little wide... I mean have you ever seen a size 2W, size 4W? I doubt it. It is only for like size 12 or 14 and up.. so once you become a women I guess they think you are doomed to being bigger.

Re: Okay I Need Help, And I Know This Maybe A Stupid Question

It probably came about because shoe sizes can have a W beside them and that means Wide. I have wide feet (and when I'm pregnant I have bloated feet) and enjoy wearing the 10W's because they feel so much more comfortable and aren't pressing on my feet as much.

I'm glad you were able to find out that it just meant "Women's" - Many of the clothes here have that W next to the size as well, though I'm not quite sure what purpose it serves when you're purchasing clothes in the Large Women's store...I think we already know we're women. Probably just another ploy to make us feel badly about ourselves and have low self-esteem.

Congrats on being in a size 16!

In shoes, W does mean wide.

In clothing it means "women". From my understanding, the difference between 16 misses and 16 women's (W) is that the women's version adds a couple of inches in pertinent places like the hips and gut area.

Re: Okay I Need Help, And I Know This Maybe A Stupid Question

Okay, a Woman's cut of pants has more hip and butt room than a Misses. Like after giving birth, growing a butt, whatever a woman's figure is a little different. If your Woman's pants are too baggy in the butt and thigh area, try a Misses size. If your Misses are bagging in the butt area, try a juniors size. Its different cuts of pants for different body shapes. Ofcourse I have a range of sizes and stuff. And no one is stuffing me into a juniors. So actually W means woman, but they ARE wider. Your grandma has a sense of humor.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                        1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                        2nd mini goal: 140!
                        3rd mini goal:135!
                        4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.
