  • Possible to loose to fast?

    Hi

I am returning after a while off and my restart with atkins is a bit strange.

    My starting weight 412 lbs
    Current 341 lbs

I am consitently loosing around 1.5 lbs every day this time and it is NOT the beginning and I am over a month into it.

Is there a risk with loosing to fast?

I feel great, I swim every morning for 1 hour and I just had a health check at the doctors that showed an all clear.

Any comments or suggestions or advice around this?

just make sure you drink lots of water all that fat loss will mean alot of toxins that were in the fat that need to be flushed out of your body

also your fat cells like to absorb water and such after loseing fat off them to recover and stuff

so by drinking lots of water you should be fine

at 330 i was loseing a pound a day during my work days but if i was 412 i could easily see my self loseing 1.5 pounds a day during my work days

your weight loss will slow down as you get closer to your goal weight mine started slowing down after the first few months on atkins

Also, swimming burns a ton of calories and if you're doing it at a reasonable pace everyday for 1 hour, you're putting in some serious work.

Hey Matt, As long as you are eating on plan I wouldn't worry at this point. My only thought would be to wonder if you are losing too much muscle. In the short term not too much of a problem (just the fact that your body no longer has to carry around that 70+ pounds means you are going to lose some muscle). But you you might want to consider starting a weight lifting routine before your body adapts to the rapid weight loss.

Thats a great idea, I could add like a 30 minute weight lifting session before each swimming session, do you think thats a good idea? I really do not want to take out a swimming day though I prefer to add more in and really push hard.

Weight lifting will be great for maintaining muscle tone (and will help you feel great too!). Don't necessarily go for as heavy weights as you lift, but focus on reps and all around toning as you build strength.

When you have alot to lose, you very well might lose fast. But realize that the loss will likely slow and you might even reach plateaus. The key is to keep with the program when this happens.

Congrats on the weight loss and keeping up with the swimming!
            Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"
