  • Help! I can't chew food (dental surgery)

I had dental surgery to remove my wisdom teeth + two more. So I'm out 6 total teeth and cannot chew food for a while.

Recommendations? The food list they gave me is no good at all. I picked up some low carb ice cream but that won't do me for an entire day, obviously.
    What I do:
Elliptical gym machine 1 hr Tue-Sun
At 320, switch to cycling on my Trek 500
    2 filtered containers water/day
    Daily salads/veggies

    Goals:

Stop needing High Blood Pressure meds - DONE!
    Workout in a XXXL shirt
    - DONE!
    Workout in a XXL shirt
    Workout in a XL shirt
    270 on the scales

    Hi John,
Do you have a blender? It's great for situations like this.
I have a friend that had a broken jaw and his jaw was wired shut. He put his food in a blender and ate it through a straw. Just a thought.
    Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I eat steak, chicken and burgers though. That would be really gross.

How about some whey protein shakes with heavy cream mixed in to keep your ratios up ?

I'm not sure about whey on induction, but several versions of the egg breakfast shake have been posted here, which are induction legal.

I wouldn't know, since I have never tried that, but meats are introduced to babies that way and some do like it. Of course, baby food is probably not seasoned to our tastes, but you can always season it the way you like it. If this is going to take awhile, you may want to at least try it, for the sake of nourishment.

Veggie juices should work ok. Again, seasoned to your taste.

              Soup.

Similar to what Sherri wrote, you can make soup by boiling or simmering meat and veggies together. Put it in a blender and puree.

Scrambled eggs? do you think you could manage that. yes. I do not recommend putting burgers in a blender and drinking it LOL nasty.

I know shakes are frowned upon, but maybe in your dire situation try a slim fast low carb shake for 1 meal?

What not2late said. Here's my favorite:

                  Zucchini soup:

1 medium zucchini, cut into 1" chunks
1 small onion, cut into 1" squares
1 strip of uncooked bacon, cut into 1" chunks

Put all ingredients in a 2-3 qt saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes. Transfer contents to blender and puree on high for 2-3 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.

                  Enjoy!

It's not like he'll go to McDonalds, order a burger, peel away the bun and throw it in the blender! lol

He buys raw ground beef, chicken or turkey from the grocery store. Cooks it in a pot with some oil/butter, breaking it with a spoon while it cooks so it's not huge chunks. Then adds veggies and water. This will simmer until it's all tender. Then he throws it in a blender and purees it and eats it as he would any soup.

It's a complete meal, with minimal loss of nutrients plus it will contain the fiber from the veggies along with other vitamins and minerals.

I have done exactly this before. You will be surprised how good it is.

Time to move to OWL 2 for a day...

Take some whey protein, some yogurt, some splenda, some water, some vanilla extract and some ice cubes and blend it into a nice vanilla milkshake... rinse and repeat...

Go back to extended induction when you can eat again...

I also vote for the pureed soup idea. Lots of recipes here to give you some ideas. I would sub ground* beef or poultry for the regular stuff as it would give the same good flavor but puree up easier.
*Brown the ground meat separately and drain the fat.
Something like Creamy Eggs or other soft egg dish would be good. Paired with a veg juice is nice. Look for the fresh veg juices usually sold in the produce department refrigerator section if possible.
