  • Some advice please

    Hi,
I have been doing atkins since July 16th. This is my third time doing Atkins. The last time I lost about 70 lbs and gained it all back and then some. I did the old version of Atkins with a lot of success. This time I am incorporating the OWL system and up until 2 weeks ago, was losing weight( 20 lbs) the last two weeks I have gotten on the scale (once a week) and have not lost anything. I am happy with my 20 lbs, but need more.
I walk briskly for 1/2 hour every morning, three times a week I work out on that Frank Sepe Fitness Disc for 15-twenty minutes, and I have a very active job where I do a lot of walking.
I drink almost a gallon of water a day, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more
    Yesterday my diet was:
B-two eggs, two slices of bacon with tabasco, decaff with about three tablespoons heavy cream
L- two egg omelet with ham, bacon, about half a cup shredded cheese, spinach, peppers, onion, salsa, about a tsp of sour cream
D- about a large deck of cards size of sirlion and green beans, two wine and fresca coolers ( about a cup of wine and 1/4 cup fresca each)
I am starting to drink wine again, last time I was on this, it didn't make a bit of difference. I have been in Ketosis the whole time, it varies from light pink to dark pink. Last time doing this, I just stayed around 20 to thirty g of carbs and had success....until I gained it all back of course
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Re: Some advice please

Oh, I have to add that I am taking Glucosomine, magnesium, D, Potassium, and a multi vitamin. and usually for lunch I have a chef salad with sliced ham and turkey (one slice each) about a half a cup of cheese, two cups of romaine, tomatoes and cukes with a couple or three TB of low carb bleu cheese dressing and a diet Rootbeer
    Thanks

OK, I think most will advise you to nix the wine and sodas (especially the wine). Other than that, possibly processed meats like ham and bacon may have you retaining water because of the higher sodium content.

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. I'll share my experience though in case it helps: I started a few days after you, moved to OWL right after Induction. My weight loss on the scale has slowed down BUT I am shrinking big time. Noticeably so.

So...did you take your measurements when you started Induction and have you noticed a change there?

p.s. I lost 18#s during Induction so I did expect things to slow down after that. Too bad...that rate of weight loss would be nice every two weeks! Sounds like you lost a lot of weight initially too so maybe your body is re-adjusting itself (or whatever the heck bodies do) also.

If you are still on induction the wine is really not a good idea. Your body will use alcohol as a 'preferred fuel' and probably store the other food you eat instead of 'burning' it, so you will be postponing any potential losses till the alcohol has been used up and your body returns to using fat for a fuel.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I agree - lose the wine. Try not changing anything else & see if you start losing again. I also understand that alcohol can produce a false positive on the ketosticks, but you'd have to ask Georgiana why that is...

Thanks you guys, I will nix the wine. Last time it didn't seem to effect the weight loss at all. I guess it's different this time.

These are the foods you should be eating. Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store.

Are you following the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book? That's the one we go by on this board.

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
