  • exercise with the wii fit

    Hi there,
I really hate exercising, everything about it really. But I can only assume its because I get winded and tired so easily due to my weight. I was wondering if anyone has used the wii fit for their 30 minutes of exercise a day and if it had comparative results with regular cardio or strength training. For the record, I usually do about 35 minutes, 8 of advanced boxing, 12 of advanced step, 3 of hula hoop, 8 of strength training(i vary) and 4 of yoga. I broke it down so you know that I'm not spending 30 minutes playing the balance games or something. Unfortunately, I have no real way to calculate the calories burned or whatnot, like I can do when I hop on the treadmill, but I do feel some burn in my legs so I know its not for nothing. Does anyone have any experience they could share so I know if I'm doing everything right exercise wise?

I don't use this stuff. Just wanted to say that those calories the treadmill is showing are super overestimated. I should be vanishing if I burned that many, that fast.

This is just my opinion, but movement is movement. If you are up moving it can't have a negative impact. Good job! I tend to quit exercising if I overdo it, but if I do something manageable every day I stick to it.

I love the Wii Fit and I'm glad you brought it up cause I wanna go out and buy one now! I've been really REALLY anti-exercise in the almost month since I started Atkins. I know I have to and the Wii is GREAT fun.

On the question of whether it's doing you any good, do you feel better? It sounds like you're doing great I'd keep it up.

        Good luck,
        Pete

I stopped trying to count calories burned a long time ago. For me, it was an exercise in frustration when the numbers didn't result in the projected weight loss.

If you like tracking these things, there are some Wii Fit calories burned calculators (Google wii fit calories burned). The more accurate results rely on readings from your heart rate monitor along with gender/weight, exercise performed and duration. You can also use something more general like SparkPeople's Calories Burned calculator to get a ballpark idea.

I LOVE my Wii! I do some work with the Wii Fit game, then the core of my workout with EA Sports Active (an excellent personal trainer "game") and add some activities from Wii Sports and the new Wii Resort for fun. I have no idea how many calories I burn but I get a really good workout and a good range of motion workout with the different activities.

I still do my fitness DVDs a few times a week to keep my body guessing...sort of like at home high tech cross training.

ETA: A lot of people who really want calories burned stats use the Body Bugg. It tracks your entire day's calories burned.

My wife has a Wii Fit, but I can't use it because it's weight limit is 350 lbs. I've got to lose another 20 pounds before I can However, I got a new thing for the wii called Wii Active which uses other things besides the balance board. I also have the fitness trainer for the Nintendo DS. But I'm working up to that. Right now, I'm doing good just to get 20 minutes of eliptical machine in a day.

2o minutes on an eliptical is great exercise! Sounds like you are moving right along.
Hope to get a Wii for Christmas this year for the whole family. We all need to get our booties off the couch more often!

I am like Mizfit. I do a combination of all the Wii "games". I love it. The one thing I know is that I feel it in my muscles so it must be doing something.
There is a new Wii Fit (wii fit plus I think its called), coming out sometime later fall I think it is. I looked at a preview of it online and it looks good!

The Wii Sports Active is like a personal trainer and you could start using this now. The boxing is a terrific workout.

Make sure you don't have the "use balance board" feature activated and start with the beginning levels. I'm staying away from the 30-day challenge until I get in better shape.
