  • Losing 5.4 lbs a month. Is that good, average or slow?

Hi! I have been on Atkins since June 25th. I have lost 5.4 lbs since July 27th to date.

That is about 5.4 lbs a month.

A lot of people on this site have had amazing loss of lbs per week/month.

So is this is an OK rate of weight loss for me or do I need to tweak something?

    Thanks

Weight loss involves such a wide range of variables that it's hard to say if yours is as good as it can be. I've learned not to compare myself with others and rather look to see if I'm doing everything possible for optimum weight loss.

    Some things to consider:
    • Frequency/intensity of exercise
    • Varying exercise so body response doesn't become stale
    • Eating too much bacon or other sodium-laden foods
    • Eating too much red meats (try more poultry & fish)
    • Drinking enough water
    • Using too many recipes for goodies or too many Splendas/sodas etc.
    • Review OWL foods to see if they may be slowing weight loss

You've lost over 50#s since June...I think that is wonderful!!

What was your start weight when you started Atkins on June 25th b/c I believe you were dieting with something else before this according to other post I found by you...

I know you can do this and I'm 100% for sure Atkins will work for you. First, do you have the 2002 Atkins Book? I seen some confusion over the website so, I wanted to make sure you have a hard copy to reference.

Now as for weight loss, so many things can contribute to it. There is some who seem to just drop the weight and others or slowly but surely are winning the race. For me... I'm in the slowly but surely, sometimes I may loose 5lbs in one week and swear that I want drop anything for the next 3 (and over the course I'm fluctuating up and down 3 lbs)

I feel there is some twicking that I still need to do. I seem to not do so well with what seems to be my "right amount of protein" Also, Cheese does seem to bother me some, so it is usually just my treat or no more then about 2 oz a day if that and many days I don't have any at all... Eggs is my best friend. I always seem to loose more when eating more of them. Red meat seems to be heavy and will keep me where I'm at, and I don't eat PORK at all!!!

At this point, It seems your are on OWL Rung 2 ... What is your menu like now? How much did you loose in the 2 weeks of introduction? How much did you loose once moving up the Rungs? Did you loose on Rung 1 before moving to Rung 2? I know we support moving up as soon as possible, but for those with more to loose can stay for a while longer on extended introduction and you can also spend more time in each rung if you are not achieving your goal yet. Hope that makes sense. I'm sure Megs or someone else will be around with more knowledge.

It is okay if it takes me a little longer to get there, besides this is where I'm going to stay forever and that is a really long time!!!

I know it is frustrating but that is still 5 lbs you will never see again. I tend to loose a lot of weight in the 2 weeks following my ttom and then stall for the next few weeks until my ttom is over again. I usually loose about 5-7 lbs a month maybe 10 on a good month. I wouldn't worry to much about it. Make sure you measure yourself, you might be gaining muscle.

Keep it up and congrats on the 5.4lbs!

Red meat is my optimal food. It gives me plenty of energy and a boost. I love it and eat it often. I ate plenty on my first induction and lost just fine. I know people have different feelings and experiences with red meat. So I just thought I would add mine.

Here is a blog on it

I wasn't sure about adding this point in as I wondered if it was more my personal experience than a general thing. I seem to lose better with more fish and poultry (nice to be eating drumsticks & thighs again!) than I do when I have a lot of beef so I thought I'd mention it.

            I love my beef too.

I do better when I do eat more red meat than poultry or (gag) fish. So you'll have to figure out what is best for your body. Don't worry if you are the same, better or not as good as anyone else -- your body isn't the same as anyone else's.....there shouldn't be any race to get to the finish line, this is your health your taking care of and that's the only thing that should matter.
