  • Hey guys! I'm new and have 2 questions :)

Ok so i'm new here, and since i start induction tomorrow AKA in like a couple hours i have two questions HOPEFULLY you can answer for me, I'd really appreciate it if you could help me?

First question is: I have fitday's software and it's amazing since i have cals/protein just everything on it, but when i look up "eggs" any type it says 2 gm carbohydrates. So wait, aren't eggs an "eat as much as you'd like" here?

Second question is: So i was talking to my friend, and if for example I eat around 5000 calories basically from protein/fat and no more than those 20 mg of carbs, wouldn't it make me gain weight? Like eating that much calories wouldn't make me gain weight even if i'm having the adecuate ammount of carbs?

Anyway, cheers for any help here.
Hey mates! I'm Erick and 20.

Re: Hey guys! I'm new and have 2 questions

    Howdy!
Well basicly the idea is self control, don't eat to be stuffed, just eat until you have the feeling of being satisfied.
And as far as the eggs go, no matter what it is you have to count the carbs.
If you want my method of loosing all of my weight that I lost? Its yummy

Get yourself a few bags of raw wings and bake a bunch every day to eat throughout the day. Also I will eat a couple whole roasted garlic cloves (or 6 hehe) and just every time you get a craving, eat 1 wingette. Drink lots of water and whenever you come to the wall that you are about to snap to get something other that those wings, you go to sleep that night and I guarentee you the very next morning if you succeed and don't cheat, will have lost a few pounds.
That is what worked for me, I thought I would share with ya

    Jesus rox!

Re: Hey guys! I'm new and have 2 questions

1 large chicken egg has about 0.6 carbohydrates basically you can eat as many as you want as long as you get your vegetables in and still stay at or under 20 net carbs

and you dont count calories on this diet but sometimes you could eat to much protein so use fitday and try to somewhat aim for 65% fat , 30% protein , 5% carbs

Re: Hey guys! I'm new and have 2 questions

Hey I love the wings idea! hhah

Like ziggy said, eggs have SOME carbs and you do have to count your carbs every day. Nothing is unlimited necessarily, you want to listen to your body and eat until your're satisfied. That's actually very hard on this diet as I generally am not hungry.

Fitday is awesome and AGAIN like ziggy said 65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs is what you're shooting for.

Good luck, sounds like you're doing great! I mean shoot you and I are almost in the same place. I started at 205 and am 186. All of a sudden in my 5th week it seems as if the pounds are coming off very regularly.

Fitday will also show you the amount of calories you EAT and what you BURN. I would check that out. My daily intake (about 1500) is much less than what I burn (2845) Basic stuff of course but I'll lose weight based on these numbers.

          Happy September!
          Pete

Re: Hey guys! I'm new and have 2 questions

I normally greet people in the introduction forum -- but since you are here -- I'll send the info I normally do here:

            Welcome to the Atkins Board.

The 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) is the book we follow here. It would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to (
www.amazon.com or www.half.com have inexpensive copies). At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

Eat a variety of food - check the recipe site below. More people quit any diet because they are only eating a few things everyday and get bored or tired of the food. I have rarely eaten the same thing over and over because of the recipe sites. Eat when you are hungry -- eat until you are full. If you eat slowly and drink water inbetween bites and put your utencils down you will get full much faster than eating as fast as you can. Another tip is, if you are hungry inbetween meals get a piece of meat (ham, turkey, chicken, etc) and dunk it in mayo or put a little cream cheese on the meat and roll it up and eat it you can also grab some veggies (sliced radishes, celery sticks, colored pepper sticks) and dip them in dressing or cream cheese. The fat will keep you full longer and it makes things taste good.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin without iron (you should get enough iron with the foods you are eating on Atkins).

Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges (most of them are starting today), Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – something for everyone.

Make a copy of this list
(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

On fitday make sure you always do the raw measurements. If you add in a cooked item, fitday makes some guesses that you added stuff to it. One raw egg has about 0.4-0.6 carb and those you do have to count.

If you eat 5000 calories you will likely put on weight. Now eating lots of fat - which is important - it is very hard to eat that many calories. So eating fat is a bit self limiting. And when ketosis sets in you will have a natural appetite represser going on. So eat good meals with nutrients (vegetables from the allowed list) Fat - abut 65% of calories should be from fat on induction. Drink water.

              And good luck!!!
