Every single time I start losing weight, I always get someone that says "don't lose too much weight now", "don't get too skinny on me" or "you look sickly and stressed when you lost weight" or "the weight your at now is perfect for you" whilst my jelly stomach rolls hang off the side of my pants lol. What is the deal? Does this happen to you guys? Drives me crazy!

    Re: haters

I just got this a couple of days ago. When I told the person I still had 50+ pounds to lose, they acted like they couldn't believe it.

I had another person tell me that he figured I am probably pushing 200. He refused to believe I am pushing 260.

I think when you don't look HUGE, people underestimate your weight.

Oh yeah! The saboteurs ... they're everywhere. I don't think they're haters, though; they just have their own body issues to deal with. Just give 'em a smile and ignore 'em .

I agree with FwL. Plus, I seriously wonder if people are jealous/envious of you (or us...I mean that kind of collectively..nothing against family/friends that might be saying that to you). Plus what we see in ourselves and what our goals are, other people just don't see.

I haven't really heard much like that myself but I also tend to keep quiet about my loss. I tell one of my sisters because she is very big on staying fit and keeping her weight under control and I know she understands what I am doing (she isn't crazy about Atkins but we don't go down that road anymore lol).

I think that it really depends on who the comments are coming from. When they come from someone who truly does love and support you, I don't think they mean it maliciously or underhandedly. For them, love really is blind and you were gorgeous to them all along, at any weight. Of course there are others though who say it out of jealousy because they don't want you looking better than them!

Just remember: those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I HEAR YOU ON THIS ONE! For me, it's my roomate. She always gives me such a hard time like that's all your going to eat? I respond with, "Um, I'm eating a steak, a large ceaser salad and some Bacon. Yeah. That's PLenty." What I really get annoyed with though is when she talks about my weight loss with other people behind my back telling everyone that I'm on the atkins diet and then laughs about it like it's a bad thing. 1 It's my business what I'm doing with my life and what I eat and 2 shouldn't you be happy for me like I would be for you if you got motivated to eat some eggs instead of a tub of ice cream? SHEESH!

              Re: haters

In my opinion there are many people in life who ( because of their own insecurities ) want to keep you (the only word I can think of) "down".....I know personally form experience that at least two of my friends like me better fat because every time I start to lose weight they sabatoge me. Me staying fat makes them feel better about themselves....The sabaotage behavior is so obvious to me....it has also become obvious to me that these people dont have my best interest or health in mind.

One of them likes to bake. She is a size 4..... I told her at least 20 times NOT to bring anything with sugar into my house because I have a particularly hard time with baked goods ( cake, brownies, choc chip cookies ) ...What does she do? She brings them to my house anyway saying they arent for me but for my husband...Now that TICKS ME OFF! Some friend.....

There are other events and comments that made it obvious to me that these "friends" are trying to sabatoge me......Now I am very selective about who I tell about my eating plan on atkins.....Funny when the baking friend doesnt think Im on a diet...she doesnt make brownies for my hubby....she only does it when I tell her I am on atkins....

I think I need new friends. lol. So just look at it this way, use your own measure of how YOU think you should be...weight wise, health wise etc....and forget the sabotagers....

Never tell anyone how many pounds you still have to lose... In their mind they times it by 4 and get the image that you are going to be anorexic...

People get upset when you say you are 'losing' weight. But if you tell them you are just on the 'no sugar eating plan' and not necessarily trying to lose weight, perhaps they can deal with that...

As you lose more and more weight, and exercise and look healthy, blame it on the exercise. Make sure to tell them that it makes you feel great... People usually don't say 'you are exercising too much' unless you are training for a marathon, but that's a whole other subset of saboteurs...

This is basically what I tell people and I find that the feedback I get is much more positive than if I say I'm doing Atkins. Most people recognize that sugar is not healthy and the response usually is something closer to admiration (usually followed by some lament that they themselves don't have the willpower to give up sugar).

I actually lost "friends" when I lost about 85 lbs a few years ago. They said my attitude had changed...they were right, I was secure, happy and energetic. I went to the gym before going out no matter what was going on, I was careful about what I ate, I dressed nicely, I went back to school and I met my husband. I was bubbly and excited to be alive. If that's how you're feeling keep it up!!!

Instead of saying that you can not have a taste, either say that you don't want a taste or that you are like an alcoholic and one taste will undermine you... they wouldn't say 'just have one sip' to an alcoholic...

                              They might.

In my experience people are even more weird about you refusing a drink than they are about you refusing food.
