  • Help, I need supplements..

Ok, I know I should take some, but I am in my 4th week (doing extended induction) and all went well so far, and it kinda slipped my mind to get some. All I am taking at the moment is, L-Carnitine and CO Q10.

Now, entering TOM, I noticed a severe lack of energy - up to now I didn't have any problems with energy at all.

    I have lost 10lbs so far - I have about 40 - 50lbs total to lose)
Maybe I should start with OWL - in order to have more carbs? Or is this lack of energy typical of TOM?)

And what supplements are you guys taking? Any suggestions?

I take normal mulitvitamin/mineral. I sometimes do Magnesium and Potassium. I eat plenty of iron (doctor tells to). In the winter I do D vitamin.
Is lack of energy one of your nomal signs? I just get pissy. And may crave a few things.
I really recommend OWL. With that much accomplished already you should start to slowly move up the ladder. You will be glad you did.

no, I never had a noticeable lack of energy, just some cravings.
Yesterday I also noticed that I had cravings like crazy (more than normally during PMS), I just couldn't stop wanting food - I pigged out on sugar-free jello snacks, mushrooms and all kinds of proteins, I didn't want to carb-crazy, lol.
Still crave something sweet today, I'll probably have some more jello snacks today.

Stay away from those jello snacks. They are not Atkins friendly!!!!
Try to find another way to deal with this. Sometimes the supplement L-Glutamine helps with carvings. Try that one.

the more you give in to that sweet craving the more you will feed into it and it gets difficult to break free. i learned that the hard way.

What's wrong with the Jell-o snacks, I thought they were OK for Atkins? No Sugar, no Carbs?

Just also want to add that normally I don't have a sweet tooth and haven't even eaten a lot of sweet stuff when I wasn't on Atkins. (It was bread and alcohol that got me to my overweight point). Just when I'm PMS'ing that I want something sweet. I got used to my controlled appetite during the first three weeks, and now suddenly I just want to eat. All day long... lol - can't wait for this next week to be over! Luckily I'm moving this weekend, so the added exercise might help.

I think I was talking about those jelly fish with sugar alcohol when I was reading your post. You are eating the sugar free jello? I think it is not bad. Some people will stall with the aspartame in them (the sweetener) so that is something to watch out for.
I do understand those silly TOM urges though

yeah, the sugar free jello snacks -- I'll make sure not to go crazy with them anyways.

Why don't you try celery with cream cheese or radishes, cauliflower, zucchini or other veggies off the list dipped in ranch dressing when you get your cravings instead of jello -- it's all artificial ingredients don't compare to veggies.

                        Re: Help, I need supplements..

I second the suggestion of eating a non-sweet snack instead of a sweetened one. Many people find that they can get rid of their sweet tooth by feeding it savoury foods instead. I have heard that eating a (no sugar added) sour thing like a pickle does the trick.

If you can convince your sugar monster that you are not going to feed it 'sweet' but will feed it highfat or sour instead you might find it goes away!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

hey - a pickle, that's a good idea, I like those. So far I haven't given it to the cravings, only a couple more days and it will be over!!!

                            Re: Help, I need supplements..

Towards the end of Induction I decided to try taking the supplements Dr. Atkins recommends in DANDR. As the Atkins Basic 3 multivitamin is no longer available, I got a similar version from Vitacost and take 2/day. Also, L-Carnitine, CoQ10, EFA/Omega 3-6-9 Complex from Natrol as well as milk thistle, Garlique, calcium citrate, Acidophilus Pearls and marshmallow root (I've been taking the last five for a long time and want to continue).

Not sure if the L-Carnitine does anything for me but I noticed a huge difference in how I felt from the Atkins clone multi. I think the CoQ10 and EFAs are helping with my osteoarthritis as I haven't had to take my piroxicam in over a month. The Acidophilus Pearls help keep me regular and avoid constipation as I am not having the amount of Greek yogurt I used to have pre-Atkins.

It's a LOT of pills to take!
