  • Calories, Fat, Protein & Carbs- FitDay Question

Just curious if when you use FitDay you're very concerned about the Calories, Fat, Protein & Carbs just being RIGHT ON. I think that's kind of impossible for me idk every single day! This is my read out today (and I don't plan on eating any more food today). heh

    Calories 1,450

    GRAMS CALORIES %

    Fat 102.4 913 62%

    Saturated 30.3 270 18%

    Polyunsaturated 9.3 83 6%

    Monounsaturated 42.2 375 25%

    Dietary Fiber10.0

    Protein 122.1 510 35%

    Carbohydrate 13.0 49 3%

    Alcohol 0.0

The calories are fine but the 62, 35, 3% is off. Who cares, tomorrow it'll be closer or whatever. My food for the day was excellent (turkey meat loaf for lunch, salmon for dinner) 5 cups lettuce, 2 boiled eggs, an ounce of cheese, 3 strips of bacon, an atkins bar and a couple of tablespoons of cream cheese. (and I enjoyed it all WHOLEHEARTEDLY).

What do you think? How do you do it? Curious about some opinions. And y'all know you're influential with me!

    Best Regards,
    Pete

The percentages are not actually in DANDR, they were discovered in a Duke University study that examined the menus in DANDR. They are guidelines.

You are, however, breaking the rules of induction by eating more than 3 cups of veggies and foods not on the list acceptable for induction. Those are in DANDR - around here, that counts for something. If you aren't following the rules of induction, or the Atkins diet, why would you care if your percentages are off?

Which foods am I eating that aren't on induction?- are you talking the bar? I upped the lettuce as I'm getting ready for OWL and my carbs were so low. I always hear "eat your veggies". I was doing like 3 cups before (for salad).

I really don't even care that much if they're off actually it's just days like this when they're THAT off I just wonder what to think, I guess hehh

Yes, the bar has non-induction ingredients. Rather than eating 5 cups of lettuce, choose 3 cups of more nutritious veggies. You don't need to do anything to get ready for OWL, you will simply add 5 carbs of veggies to your average induction menu. I'm not sure what adding 2 cups of lettuce would give you?

Don't worry about the percentages. As you said, it's impossible to get them 65-5-30 every single day of Induction, and even in Dr. Westman's study, they were not exactly 65-5-30 (the numbers just got rounded up by low-carbers so that they sound nice ).

Every day during our Induction, if we are following the 2002 plan, we eat three cups of veggies and we get over half of our net carbs from vegetables. Now it's the time to learn portion control and, more importantly, how to choose the most nutritious vegetables, so that you get the most out of those three cups. Lettuce has some vitamins and minerals, but it's not very nutritious compared to other veggies. Furthermore, eating only lettuce will give you a limited number/variety of vitamins and minerals. Certain vitamin and mineral deficiencies are bad not only for your health, but also for your weight loss. This is why it's important to vary your vegetables and choose nutritious ones.

Re: Calories, Fat, Protein & Carbs- FitDay Question

Thanks y'all I appreciate the input. I guess right now I'm a little veggie-shy as I was above my 20 carbs when I started (unbeknownst to me really) so cut back so drastically that lettuce was the only thing that didn't scare me! I love veggies a lot and can eat a LOT of them which I realized back then had carbs... I definetly understand wanting more nutrient dense veggies and am ON IT.

I started on Day One doing the bar and was thoughtful about eliminating it however to be perfectly honest it "hits the spot" and wasn't detrimental to my progress so I kept it. I realize it's a processed food with ingredients not "pure" for an induction but when I look at the overall picture it was a fit.

I'm not going to worry about the percentages just the overall picture. I finally have started consistently to turn my ketostix darker (and am not all obsessed about that either), the weight's coming off at a healthy clip, my water intake is great, and I feel good.

            That's what matters to me!

Thanks again for taking your time to respond.

But don't two of those three cups HAVE to be "salad vegetables" (like lettuces)? It seems to me that most of the veggies with a higher nutritional punch are in the 1 cup a day category...

There are lots of veggies in the "salad" category - lettuce is the least nutritional of all of them. Colourful peppers, radishes, cucumber, mushrooms, jicama, etc all have different nutrients than lettuce, and compared to each other. It is best to vary vegetables in order to get some of each nutrient in our diets. Some lettuce is fine, I just get concerned when I see someone eating only lettuce as their veggie!

                  Nutrition Information for Vegetables

here is a link to a resource that provides very detailed info about the nutritional make-up of vegetables...for those who want to compare and contrast the different strengths/weaknesses of the "salad vegetables," this is the place to go!
