    Hi and welcome -

You should take a multi-vitamin without Iron. You should get enough iron from the foods you eat on the plan. Most "senior" vitamins (Centrum, etc) don't contain iron so you could get one of those (either name brand or generic).

The menu is up to you -- it's easier if you make your own meal choices and since you have been on Atkins before you should know how to do that. Make sure you eat a variety of foods so you don't get tired of the same old thing.

Because of the trauma your body has just gone through (I had my hysteroctomy about 20 years ago) give yourself time to loose the weight. Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), start exercising (walking is a great way to start), eat 3 good meals and a couple snacks daily. Don't allow yourself to get hungry - eat a protein/fat snack if you are hungry (meat rolled up with cream cheese, meat dipped in mayo, etc). The protein/fat together will help keep you full longer and will help with cravings if you're having any.

Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

I wish I would have been smart enough to start Atkins after I had my hysteroctomy -- I know it would have helped get my emotions and body changes in order. Instead I've lived this long with the fluctuations until recently. Within a month you will feel so much better an it will help you in the long run!

        Good luck.

            Re: what do you think

I had a complete hysterectomy at age 45 and I've noticed since then that my calorie requirements are lower than before and I lost weight a bit more slowly. I've done very well on Atkins so far so I really think it was also too many carbs...this plan seems to be the ticket and my weight loss is fairly steady each week.

It is a scary and confusing time right after this operation as your body goes into instant menopause. I remember crying a lot and I was never the weepy type. I still tear up at those really touching commercials and sad movies. Oh well! A very helpful site after my operation was Hystersisters. Lots of info and support from women who have gone through the same thing and are going through the same emotional and physical roller coaster.

Good luck and I hope to read more posts from you.
