  • Natural Flavoring?

I have a quick question, I lovee the ground turkey that comes in the frozen roll. I noticed on the back it says under ingrediants *Turkey* and *Natural Flavorings* I am hoping that means just the flavoring the Turkey gives it and not some no no item. I looked on the website and couldn't find no more info. What is your experience with it?

    Re: Natural Flavoring?

Natural flavors are mystery ingredients and there are many chemicals that can hide under this name. Many should not influence weight loss, but others could (e.g. citric acid, which has the potential to affect ketosis, although current research results are not conclusive). One other "natural flavor" is MSG.

Also, manufacturers can change the composition of these "natural flavors" anytime without letting the consumers know (since the ingredients are not listed on the label). So today you might be fine eating that food, while tomorrow the same food could affect your weight loss.

As for the health aspect of this, personally I avoid mysterious ingredients. Plus, I don't think turkey needs turkey flavor. If it does, then the turkey was not turkey enough. They add these flavors to make the foods taste (often, just smell, since we enjoy food flavors by tasting as well as smelling them) "better" than they normally would, so that we buy them again.
