  • Gaining crazy weight back

Okay, so about a month ago I started Atkins, and it went really well, but it was a bit too slow for my liking. On youtube there is this woman who is claiming that she lost a lot of weight really quickly be doing a partial liquid diet. She ended up losing 100 pounds in 3 months.

So of course I tried it for about 2 days and I really ended up gaining half a pound each day, and went off of it. Then yesterday I tried to get back into Atkins again and now I'm up another whole pound. I'm 6 pounds heavier this Monday than I was last Monday!

Another thing is my birthday was last week and for about two days I totally ruined my diet with cake and pizza.

I feel like my body doesn't know what to do bc I switched it up 3 times in the last 2 weeks. I really want to get back onto Atkins and find out the right caloric intake for myself and eat right. I am walking 2 hours a day and not only not losing any weight, but GAINING it, isn't going to work!

Happy Birthday late....hopefully you have everything out of your system that isn't following Atkins. Many times when people claim to be following Atkins they aren't (the lady on YouTube definately wasn't following the plan). If you read the stories here of REAL people who you can talk to about loosing weight on the plan and keeping the weight off it may help you believe in the plan. Atkins is not a quick fix diet - it is a lifestyle change.

If your weight loss is too slow for your liking you may need to check what you are eating (post several days menus including amounts of everything you eat) and let the people here see if they see anything that may be slowing you down. Post your food here Review My Menu - Atkins Diet.

People loose larger amounts of weight the first 2 weeks but then the weight loss slows down -- that's normal on any weight loss plan. Many people will loose 1 - 2 pounds weekly after the initial 2 induction.

If you get back on plan the way it is written -- stay on induction for 2 weeks and get your body back on track you should be successful. Make sure you are only eating foods on the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html. Are you drinking 64 ounces of pure water daily? If you aren't that could be 2 reasons why you aren't loosing any weight. No bars or shakes, read your labels of everything you buy for not just the "carb" amounts -- read the ingredients and know what you are putting in your body (watch for hidden sugars).

Check the recipe sites for delicious menu ideas - make sure you are eating enough vegetables everyday. Once you get on plan you should be fine.

make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

If you restricted your calories like crazy and didn't give your body proper nutrition, you will gain weight back once you start eating normally. Once your body realizes you are not going to starve it anymore, it will let go of the weight again. But in a first phase, some pounds will come back on. This is why you have to change your lifestyle, not to follow a 3-months or whatever diet. With a lifestyle change, such as Atkins, not a partially liquid diet, you will lose weight in a healthy way and learn how to keep it off.

This is something I believe you should read: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...dr-atkins.html

No I wasn't reducing my calories like crazy, I haven't even paid attention to anything but sugar and carbs on labels until now. But I would like to follow Atkins as well as limit the number of calories each day as well as fat (not too much, but before I was eating things like bacon everyday and that wasn't too good). Does anyone know the best way to access how many calories you should be eating a day?

          Re: Gaining crazy weight back

I loose weight faster when I use fitday and up my fat intake a little. I still just loose a pound or two a week. But I have been able to move up the rungs and eat more foods as long as watch the overall carbs. I gain up to 10 pounds of water when I go off atkins and eat carby things. It comes back off within about a week. I also hold a little water when I excercise suddenly after doing nothing. I don't know why, maybe its muscle, but I doubt it. I cheated yesterday, I had a peach and a few grapes I'd bought for the kids. I missed some veggies to keep my carbs down. But I'm not to rung 7 and its messed up my test of rung 6. You may be able to loose weight quick with shakes and things but it tends not to stay gone for long. Those diets are some of the worst for regain. The thing about loosing it slow and making overall changes is that they stick with you when the diet phase is over. Its not a bad thing to learn to eat higher fat foods if you learn to avoid the foods you've already learned do not agree with you! If you plan on doing atkins just until the weight is off then eating like you did to gain the weight, you will regain weight. And then you'll be here again anyway. Might as well hang around and check out people who are maintaining there losses threw the maintance phase. Get back on induction until the water weight straightens itself out, then continue to ongoing weightloss and work your way up to eating more foods. Like veggies and dairy.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

          1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
          2nd mini goal: 140!
          3rd mini goal:135!
          4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

            Re: Gaining crazy weight back

The most famous person I know of who did a liquid "diet" was Oprah, and she lost 60 pounds and immediately put it back on. She always talked about it being a mistake as well. I remember her coming out with a wagon loaded with fat and thought as well at the time, how amazing. I wish I could do that. But from previous experience and 10 years of being "skinny" by following low carb, I now know that for my body type, it is the only way to go, and the only thing my body responds to. For the first time in 3 years, I am finally starting to feel like the old me. Yes I wish it could be faster, but I didn't put the weight on in three months.

If you haven't done so, please take a day or two to read DANDR 2002. You need some education about how Atkins works to make your decisions. Doing Atkins, then liquid, pizza and birthday cake, then Atkins in the course of a month, isn't helping you and isn't the way Atkins works.

Sadly, I've seen too many people leave Atkins after trying to do it their way. All they lose is time they could have better spent following Atkins as it was written. I know you want to lose weight. Give yourself a chance and follow Atkins. Don't try to do it YOUR way. Do it the way Dr. Atkins prescribed in DANDR 2002. He gave us the blueprint. It works. You just have to follow it.

Follow Atkins Induction for 2 weeks. Then move to OWL if that is what you decide after you have read the Chapter between Induction and OWL. It will save you a lot of frustration if you can understand the science of how Atkins works and Dr. Atkins explains it very clearly.

              Best of luck.

                This.

Trying to put strict limits on calories and fat content within this WOE severly limits the effects.

I have found that I do best around 1800 calories- 55 to 60g. of fat everyday. Interestingly enough, I feel like I have to force myself to do this as the allowable lists for induction and early phases have relatively little calorie content.

Big plus one on reading the book.

                  Re: Gaining crazy weight back

Well I started back up today after I weighed in. I have no idea why but I am 4 pounds less today than yesterday, so I guess it was all water weight. Anyway I'm going to try and keep better track of what I'm eating because I want to have the right amount of calories and fat as well as follow Atkins.

Again, I was never on a low calorie diet, and I'm going to try to do Induction and figure out the right amount of calories and fat for me.

                  Thanks all
