  • Switching Diets

A friend of mine who has done Atkins with me since I started has decided to switch to WW, since she's become bored with the foods and feels severely restricted. I tried telling her to move on to OWL, but she says if she's going to bother with all that she'd rather count points.

Will she gain all of the weight she's lost back since she'll be eating carbs again, even though she's on a weight loss program? I'm hoping that maybe this will change her decision.

    Thanks.

If she can stick to points and make good choices it may work for her. What will likely happen as soon as she start to eat more carbs is that she put on some water weight but that will only a few pounds -4-5 maybe. Sorry you lost your diet friend but keep doing it. We are here for you.

Hard to say what will happen to her.

But she should have investigated Atkins more thoroughly before she started because it seems like she thought Induction was the entire Atkins Diet.

Perhaps she should have. I'm not going to judge her because of her decisions, I just wanted to know if the she's eating carbs again on a weight loss program if it will reverse her Atkins success.

I'm at the same point as far as boredom goes. I'm moving onto OWL at the end of this week.

          OWL is a wonderful place.
Another good thing to do is to explore new recipes.
Are you familiar with Linda's low carb place?

Not a judgment on my part either, but an observation. In fact, if you read the threads on ADBB, about 50% of the people here think Induction Phase is the entire Atkins Diet. Which is unfortunate because it isn't.

I'm at the same point as far as boredom goes. I'm moving onto OWL at the end of this week.
Good for you. Dr. Atkins wrote the only people who may benefit from staying on Induction longer than 14 days are those people who have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss. And from the collective experience of ADBB, it's true: extending Induction doesn't guarantee a continued weight loss, a faster weight loss, or even a consistent weight loss.

In fact, plenty of people get bored with the Induction Diet. So they cheat and fall off the diet. Or worse, they cheat and find they still lose weight, so whenever anyone writes about having a cheat day or a cheat meal or a cheat weekend, they post that they cheat all the time and they have no problems with their weight loss at all, so go ahead---cheating on ATkins won't hurt you like what the mods and old-timers say. If they do Atkins properly, they wouldn't have this "I have to cheat in order to stick on Atkins" mentality because 90% of the cheat foods are completely legal on OWL Phase. And it's a rather toxic mentality to have because it reinforces the idea that diets are meant to punish you rather than help you live a healthy life.

              Re: Switching Diets

WW has a lot of popularity due to their points system where they claim you can eat anything you want as long as you stay within your point range. Great in theory but I've seen so many people eating all kinds of unhealthy foods within their points. Also those zero point foods amaze me too...sorry, but all those calories do add up.

The WW Core Plan (the old WW plan) does work well for a lot of people though. Too many carbs for effective weight loss for me (I want to lose more than .5-1#/wk) but that is a healthy plan at least. I think the new Momentum plan has Core elements in it.

Personally, South Beach might be a plan for her to consider. It's a shame she couldn't hang around for OWL...it's a great learning experience and one that will lead to permanent weight loss.

Sorry you lost your diet buddy.

                Re: Switching Diets

Mizski said what I was thinking. Most people go on WW because they can eat "whatever" as long as it is in their points bank for the day. That includes ice cream and other things.

I do agree that folks on this diet do not read up on it properly or do the research fully. There are so MANY induction friendly recipes and even other recipes for later down on the rungs that I do not feel left out at all.

I am enjoying the diet. Sure out in public it might be a little harder to order but ntohing taste as good as being thin!
