One month.....22 pounds woot woot for you. I know my loss will be much slower than that...but yes lets buddy up. I think having someone else to check in with, account to, and rival with makes me more determined to follow everything to a T.

What do you do for exercise? What have you noticed is a no-no for you in your eating habits?

      Any other takers?

Re: Looking for a weight loss buddy

        Sounds like a plan!

I have been on induction for the 14 days and on extended induction. I really have not veered off the induction list *yet* but will start to move up the rungs soon.

My hubby and I started Atkins after he was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic and now he is completely off his insulin and only on one pill a day so it is made him so much healthier.

My exercise is tennis twice a week for 2 hours and the gym 5 times a week for 1 hour. I am lifting weights and then 20 minutes of cardio after.

My one thing that I struggle with is my WATER and VITAMINS. I forget my vitamins EVEN with a reminder on my i phone. And I just hateeeee water. But I am getting better. I have actually really enjoyed the program and have become very creative.

I will tell you what has helped me enjoy it the most is the website that linda has of recipes. The ones with an * beside them are induction friendly. So I try to go on there to make different things. I make me a quiche for each morning's breakfast so I can grab and go to work. Lunch is usually some meat and salad. Dinner is a bit more creative with something off her site.

I can tell you that if you have a sweet tooth the cream cheese clouds on her site are to DIE FOR!!! You eat them frozen and they taste like real little mini cheesecakes.

When do you start on Atkins? And what part of the world are you located in? I started on 8/15 and located in Georgia.

I will warn you I will be scarce on Monday and Tuesday as I am having some major sinus surgery Monday morning so you might not hear from me for two days but do not fret it is because I am knocked out on pain pills! LOL

Re: Looking for a weight loss buddy

I first started on Atkins in 2003 at 196lbs, lost 50 lbs, kept it off for 2.5 years. When my husband and tried, and tried, and tried for our 3rd baby we went to a fertility doc...they told me I was not ovulating and it might be from the way I was was restricting my diet. So the want for a baby overtook me and I went off Atkins in December of 2006. By March of 2007 we were pregnant. My daughter was born in Nov 2007 and when I went back to work in Feb 2008 I was 204 lbs. I used Atkins to get down to 171 and stayed there until July 2009 when my family moved from Florida to Colorado. I re-committed to Atkins starting 9-15-09 at 180.5lbs.

My sweet-craving buster is to eat a couple slices 1-2 ounces total of really sharp cheddar cheese. For some reason this works for me. I am also the type that if I have something sweet...even legal sweet....it is like a train wreck. I crave more and more.

I love the recipes on Linda's site. It helps overcome the boredom that can result in eating the same things all the time.

I have found that the difference of 6 years between starting Atkins the first time and starting it recently is huge! Age does matter...and I think my body needed to shed all the hormones from having a baby. I am working really hard this time at being on plan.

A suggestion for the vitamins...if you carry a purse or if you have a place to put some at work, buy a weekly pill dispenser (the one with a slot for each day) and fill it up with your vitamins. Take them with you in your purse or take them to work so you can take them when you remember. I do that...it helps me also because I eat my breakfast as soon as I make it to my desk. I take time on Sunday to cook bacon, sausage patties, and boiled eggs, put them in small baggies divided up for the week so I can grab one and go.

Good luck with your surgery. Make sure you have some Atkins-friendly stuff on hand because you probably wont want to do much for a few days.

Glad to meet you by the way...here's to a successful journey.

Re: Looking for a weight loss buddy

You will do fine this time You just have to stick to it. I have never done Atkins before now and in the past had very bad thoughts about it until I started researching what it was actually all about.

Hubby and I are making me some Atkin friendly soups this weekend so I will be ready to go. I am sure I will need to eat something with the pain medicine or I will be sick. So I am planning ahead for sure.

I am not letting surgery get in my way that is for sure...

So how is today going? Have you had any induction flu symptoms? OH my gawd - when I first started I seriously thought I was not going to make it mine were so bad. But I did. MY poor hubby had a good laugh at me and kept saying just keep going it gets better...i promise...

Today I have a luncheon at work for a sales meeting so I am going to have to make sure I pick all the right things. I Know we are having salad. But not sure what meats. So if I have to just eat some salad and no meats I will untiL I get out and can eat my chicken.

Got to run - have a great Atkins day!

Re: Looking for a weight loss buddy

Today is going really well for me. My body adjusts well to the WOE so my induction flu symptoms are minimul. Yesterday I had a headache all day...just slight one that I think is from not having the caffiene (I confess I am a Diet Pepsi addict). In the past when I was on Atkins I should have owned stock in a bottled water company...I drank so much of it because the water in Gainesville, FL really sucked. Now that we live in Colorado the water...even city water...is wonderful. I work at HP and they have an ice machine with water in every building. It is on the other side of my building so I make myself get up every hour on the dot and go refill my glass. This helps keep me moving, gives me a potty break, and keeps the water flowing.

Has your husband tried Atkins before? Mine has but he is a carbaholic and likes his beer so I just let him see me losing weight and make him eat what I eat at home...he eats what he wants when he is out. He has tried it before with me and was only able to lose if he took one of the vitamins recommended by Dr A., not L-Glutamine but L...something, which helps your body metabolize fat but it is as expensive as diet pills.

I hope that they serve you some good salad during lunch today. We had a meeting on Monday where everyone had pizza and cookies, I came in with my little bowl of chicken salad, they laughed at me...I told them I'd have the last laugh in a few months when I was skinny again.

My biggest recommendation on the upcoming surgery is to not skip eating something no matter how you feel. Keep your energy levels up so your body can heal. Buy some cans of chicken and beef broth for emergencies...and enjoy the egg drop soup! It is a yummy meal if I think to make it.

Something I want to try this winter is an Atkins friendly pumpkin soup...and maybe a squash soup...better stop talking about food or I will be hungry again...lol!

              So for my menu today:

              Breakfast:
4 small jimmy dean sausage patties

              Lunch:
4 ounces of left-over rotisserie pork loin
1 cup of cabbage cooked with bacon

              Snack:
              10-15 slices of pepperoni
1 ounce of chedder cheese (extra sharp keeps my sweet cravings away)

              Dinner:
Chicken Wings, seasoned (salt and pepper) and fried in olive oil
2 cups salad , romaine, green pepper
1 T Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing

And as much water as I can drink without drowning myself...lol!

Oh...I am a big-time scale person, I have to weigh every day, which is a double edged sword..really good on days when I lose (or don't gain), and sometimes bad when I have a streak where I don't lose anything...but I was down 2.5 pounds this morning! Woot Woot!

Good morning miss carrie - (IT IS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!)

I dont have time to write a lot right now but will later as I am quite busy tieing up ends at work before I go out for almost 2 weeks.

Hubby has never done atkins before. BUt his blood sugar was so bad the doctor and dietician actually recommended it. He has now been able to come off his insulin shots and the doctor told him to keep doing and he will be able to even come off the pills. So he is doing very well. It helps to have him doing it as it keeps me on track.

Next week I will make sure to have my fridge stocked of atkin friendly foods becuase I definitely want to eat. I do not want to lose my progress. I am like you a bit of a scale person and weigh several times a day (just out of habit) and always have but the measuring helps too.

I am off will write more later!
                Have a good friday

Re: Looking for a weight loss buddy

TGIF! I hope things are going well for you! Things have been crazy busy for me this morning. That helps the day go by faster and keeps me on my feet instead of in front of this computer on this board...lol! I am addicted yet again.

Yesterday went really well for me. I even at less that what I had planned and my %s of fat/carbs/protein were almost perfect. I drank about 150 ounces of water too. Today the water may be a little less because I haven't drank as much this morning but it should be 100+ ounces.

I weigh myself before going to bed and when I wake up in the morning. I hate doing it but find it keeps me in line. If I skip weighing then I realize what messes my diet up. I have a REALLY low CCLL so there are times when I have to cut out even some of the LEGAL vegies to get the weight coming back of. For me it is best if I jump up and down...eat exactly the 2 cups salad vegies, and the 1 cup of other, or 3 cups salad vegies one day and slightly less the next. I always have some veges but if I eat the 3 cups every day I stall...but there are some other things that I can eat on and off (when not on induction) that are just fine (like almonds...or peanuts if I need a quick snack). I am a firm believer that you must keep track of everything and then adjust the way you eat for what you body wants...as long as you stay really close to the path and don't go over.

I am tracking everything in fitday so that I can see how the food affects me this time. Yesterday I at exactly on plan and gained a pound...it will come back off probably with another pound in the next day or so...but we will see.

Good luck getting things going at work for your surgery! I will be on at least once each day this weekend so I will TTYL!

Re: Looking for a weight loss buddy

Hello and good evening. I hope all is well with you today. I began the debate about veggies today on the main forum...fun stuff it is..especially when each person interprets the book a little different. Anyway...

I made something that was really good this evening for dinner, even my hubby loved it. Here in Colorado, chile peppers are in season. I love chile rellenos, so I made my take on them. I browned 2 pounds of ground beef, then added 8 ounces of cream cheese, 8 ounces of cheddar cheese, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper to taste. Then I stuffed the chile (after I cleaned the seeds out), and baked it in the oven for half an hour. It made 8 peppers and by my count that was about .75 cups salad veggies and 2 ounces of cheese per pepper. I ate two with a tablespoon of sour cream, half an avacado diced, and a tablespoon of diced fresh tomatoes.YUMMY!

We will see how the scale likes it over the next few days.

Other than that I had 3 slices of bacon and an egg over medium for breakfast and my husband took me to Chili's for lunch. I had a sirloin (and asked the manager for the ingredient list for the spices they put on it - all of which were legal, salt, pepper, garlic) and about a third cup of steamed broccoli.

I think I had a little more veggies than my system normally likes so we shall see what the scale does in the next few days.

I did alot of walking today and drank my 100 ounces of water. I am still feeling great!

How are you doing...and how is the prep coming on all of the soup?

                      Hi carrie

Sorry I didnt get to post anymore since Friday morning. I am SICK! My doctor ordered me to bed until tomorrow morning with some very strong antibotics. All this sinus stuff has moved down into my chest so it has been a joy.

I find out in the morning if they are even going to do my surgery this week or not...JOY JOY I say!

My soups are cooked and in the fridge and ready to go. We also did that gazpacho thingy as well. Hubby is trying to take care of me at least. If I do have surgery tomorrow you will not hear from me until Tuesday. But if I dont I will be on here to talk. I hoping they do it and get it over with. I am miserable!

ON a more postive note - I am down another 3 pounds.... this week so I was so excited to see that on the scale. Of course I havent worked out this week and will not be able to the next two weeks so I will take any loss I can get!

How is your weekend?? What are your exercise plans this week?? Dont forget to drinkk that water!

                      Hugs

I am sorry to hear that you are not well. I hope that the surgery does turn out well. Sounds like you are prepared either way.

I am also glad that you are down 3 pounds..yipee! I can also understand not feeling up to working out. There are times when our bodies need rest. You will be back at it in not time at all. Hopefully the kids are helping out, and helping your hubby as well.

My weekend is going well. My husband is working awful hours right now (Seven 12-13 hour days) to meet a big deadline. I rarely see him. But we did get to meet for lunch yesterday. We went to Chili's and it was like take your family to lunch day, lots of little children. It was nice and the food was delish! I asked the waitress what was in the seasoning and seasoned butter they put on their steaks. The manager brougt me a printout of the ingredients and it was legal. So I had an 8 ounce sirloin with some broccoli. YUMMY! I didn't even bat an eye when my hubby was eating breaded fried onion strips and jalapeno slices. My lunch was good and on plan.

I did alot of walking while we were out yesterday ( my daughter and I walked the entire building of Bass Pro in Denver, the a furniture warehouse, then wal-mart. Today I took my youngest (21 months) in her backpack/carrier and went hiking. After 7 miles I am tuckered out...but feel really good. Tonight we are having Corned beef and cabbage for dinner, which I am looking forward to. I don't think I have ever said Yuck! I don't want that on this plan...EVER.

I did manage to start quite the debate on veggies tho...so I am re-reading my DANDR2002 book. I have read it so much the pages are falling out. When I was on Atkins from 2003 - 2006 I would read it when I would stall, or when I would gain...each time I found something new.

I hope you feel better soon, and let me know when you are up to chatting again. Good LUCK! Have a great ATKINS week.

Re: Looking for a weight loss buddy

Hi Traci! I hope that your surgery went well. I hope the pain is minimul or nonexistant. How are your soups working for you?

Things are going really well on my end. I tried mashed pumpkin last night and loved it, I cooked it with a little salt, pepper, and a tablespoon of real butter. YUMMY! I have been exercising everday, drinking 150+ounces of water, and eating on plan. I am logging everything into fitday and my % are pretty good.

It is officially fall and there is snow in the mountains. I am trying to plan ahead for winter exercise. I hope I can get a treadmill or elliptical machine for my basement.

The scale stayed at an even 177 this morning, no gain no loss, since I usually yo-yo up down and have only a slight loss each week, this morning was really positive. I hope tomorrow shows signs of a loss.

I feel great! How have you been doing? How far have you made it re-reading the book. I am a couple chapters in and learning new stuff again. Every time I read it before I was ready to skip to the weight loss section (Induction). This time I am reading every word and it is pretty interesting.

I hope you are doing good and will TTYL!
                          Carrie

                              Hi Carrie,

Sorry I am just now getting to check in. The surgery went well. My sinuses were 100% blocked but was successful in getting everything removed. The status report came back it was not cancer.

I have been very sick to my stomach so I have hardly ate because it wont stay down. But I am getting better. I am also in a great deal of pain still but of course that is to be expected.

I am off to take more pain meds but wanted to stop in really quick before I got all drugged up again.
