  • Im a bit confused with fitday

I was doing the goals for weight to see what I should restrict as far as calories, and im a bit confused. Not really sure what is a good goal to achieve. Me I would like to lose about 30lbs by December. Im way overweight and would think that is healthy. Fit day is telling me that is unhealthy because it is over 2lbs a week, but its only like 2.89 a week is what it gave me. Is that really bad or what is an optimal goal to put in there so it can give me feedback on calories and things I need to obtain to get there.

Just wanted to add that my ultimate goal is to get down to about 180 which means that I will need to lose about 150lbs, but was trying to do small goals, do you think it would be best to do the bigger goal for the bigger picture, and what is a reasonable time frame for 150lbs? Im just trying to get some idea calorie wise what I should be aiming for and cutting back.

Go with the maximum caloric deficit fitday gives, then accordingly, say every two weeks, re input a new weight goal. That's how I did it.

I've found that calorie/weight loss projections from just about all sites to NOT consider low carb diets. They are designed around the typical US diet (Food Pyramid) and consider any weight loss over 2#s/week to be dangerous. Don't know why but they do.

Those calculators also use your recent weigh ins to calculate when you will be at goal. FitDay used my 25# loss in my first month of Atkins and did calculations based upon that rate of loss. Yeah, that would be nice but it ain't gonna happen.

Your starting weight is not far from where I started so I think it would be very likely that you will reach or most likely exceed your December weight loss goal IF you do a clean induction and follow the plan as it is written.

Atkins doesn't really go into calorie restriction, rather he focuses on carb restriction and types of carbs (OWL levels). That said, I DO also watch my calories...I am older, post-menopausal and require less calories than most people. I would work on following Atkins as written in DANDR 2002 and notice what your calorie levels are. I've found that mine range from ~1100 to ~1500/day with occasional days that go higher or lower a bit. This is just how it worked out by eating according to the book...I didn't have to restrict them. Weight loss has been consistent and steady.

I don't see how an anonymous online resource can know anything about a particular individual's metabolism.

One thing I have learned from 33 years of trying to lose weight is "one size does NOT fit all" and all individuals are different.

How else can my 90-pound sister, who shares my genes, eat sugar, cakes, pasta, etc and never get fat?
