  • OY! Breath that could kill a moose...

    Hi all,

I'm on day 12 of a clean induction and have lost 16 lbs. That said, I was absolutely mortified today when my DH said, "Honey, you've gotta do something about your breath. Something died."

OMG! What can I do? Use one of those Listering films? Chew mint?

Has anyone else had this? Please help!

    Thanks!

LOL...and congratulations on all that weight loss. My good friend at work has the breath problem on Atkins and was even told by his boss (ughhhh). I'm going to read that thread along with you so I can pass it along to him. Good luck!

Remember to floss! Ketone breath is bad, but meat between the teeth is stinkier. I use a baking soda and peroxide tooth paste to whiten my teeth and this has helped. Baking soda tastes worse than the minty stuff, but helps with the breath.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

            1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
            2nd mini goal: 140!
            3rd mini goal:135!
            4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Chewing sugarless gum works for me.

But not totally. UGH. And I have a dentist appt next week, too. LOL. Poor guy!

                Re: SF chewing gum

Don't forget it contains a sugar substitute, so you need to count it towards your daily sweeteners. Assuming you are not having sweetener from any other sources, you are limited to three pieces per day.

Also, if it is sweetened with sugar alcohols, you might digest some carbs and then they need to be counted towards your net carbs.

Thanks for clarifying to others and offering that reminder. I don't eat any other artificial sweeteners at all. I have no problem staying away from them, but I have to have my gum. One piece after my mid-morning snack, and one after my mid-afternoon snack. And if I'm feeling particularly dragon-breathy, one in the evening. But I try to limit it to two.

Moose is very delicious, and soooo induction friendly, so butcher that big boy up and put it on the grill!

Chewing some parsley and drinking lots of extra plain water will have it gone in no time. Atkins is a little dehydrating and a dry mouth stinks pretty quickly. When you have been in ketosis for a while, it goes away on its own.

                      Congrats on the losses!

OK, that comment about moose really made me spit out my Diet Rite!

Thank you all so much. I bought some parsley and mint, and I love them. So does hubby. Thanks for rescuing us!

                          End of induction, 17lbs lost.

                          Cheers!

I keep a travel size bottle of Colgate mouthwash in my purse and refill it when I use it up. I also floss more and brush with baking soda, then brush again with something minty that tastes better. It does help.

Like Chinadoll, I carry around a little bottle of listerine. Sometimes I'll chew some gum, but I use it sparingly.
