  • A Little Disappointed

    Hi,
I just ended week SIX. I am a little disappointed that I only lost 1 # this week. I knew week ONE would be a big loss, and that it would decrease after that, but at my weight I thought I would lose more than 1#. Last week was 2#. I know we are all different, and I am a little older and I heard the weight loss is a little slower as you age, but it is hard to take when you see others dropping 3, 4 and 5# weekly even after many months.
I have not cheated except for a few times I had a little more vegetables than I should, but not a lot. I am not talking bowls full, maybe a few more ounces of onions or spinach. I am drinking my water --minimum of 80 oz a day, usually more.
Started Exercise around Week 2 of Atkins. I use the elliptical for about 25 minutes at a time about 3X a week, and I go to Bollywood, Bellydance, and Zumba classes as well as 50+ Yoga, Sit and get fit (weight training). I keep up pretty well at the dance classes despite my weight.

I guess I am just feeling a little down after a week of hard work. Seems like all I do is shop for groceries, prep, cook, eat, clean up, prep, cook, eat , clean up. Run out to exercise, and then prep, cook, eat, and clean up!

I know it can be frustrating at times.

Maybe post your menu so others can help you with that.

If you added excercise or had a hard workout I read you could hold a little water from it. Do you only weigh weekly? Mine goes up and down a lot just day to day. But you won't see me posting I lost three pounds in a week. I don't excercise enough for that to ever happen. I'm not a very active person, or a fancy cook. It takes me longer to take the weight off but its a lifestyle I can live with. Going on and off and gaining some back and cheating slowed me down too. But at this point, I want something thats gonna work for me longterm. Now being more active is really good for you and will help you loose it faster and look better when it comes off. But be honest with yourself about whether or not its workable as a lifestyle for you. Some people excercise a lot more than others. The important thing isn't where you are in one year, its where will you be in five or ten years? Will you be healthy? Will you be happy? You didn't get where you are overnight, and you won't change it overnight either. Some people can drop the weight really fast and really good. And sometimes in five years they are doing it all over again too.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

            1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
            2nd mini goal: 140!
            3rd mini goal:135!
            4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

you've gotta hang in there! 1 lb is better than no pound...
              it will come off...
we've all been down this road... it will work out!

be proud of your 1 and that you've hit some of the mini goals too!

Keep Going! You CAN do this!

Look what a healthy lifestyle you have! You eat right, you exercise, (hopefully) you take your supplements. Lots of good things you're doing for your body, and I'm sure it appreciates it even when it doesn't lose a lot of weight. Don't forget to take body measurements too (they are a better indicator of fat loss) and try to notice the other benefits of Atkins, besides weight loss.

I'm not asking this because I'm nasty... just curious... What were you doing before Atkins in the time you now spend "shopping, cooking, eating, exercising, then doing it ALL over again and again"?

                  Re: A Little Disappointed

I lose an average of 5 lbs per month. Seems like it is going to take FOREVER to get to my goal weight. Seems like losing weight should be easier that this! But that's the reality. I'm older than when I use to lose faster. I take hormones. I take thyroid meds. I don't work out as hard as I should yet. Although it is getting easier the more I lose. I'm FINALLY starting to feel light and airy instead of sluggish and slow. Sometimes it takes 2 weeks just to lose 1 stupid pound. But the alternative is unthinkable. The alternative means quitting and gaining, and I'm never going to allow myself to do that again. I don't care out slow I lose as long as that line keeps a downward trajectory, I'm happy.

How many pounds have you lost since the day after induction? That will give you a monthly average...

First of all, 22 pounds is BRILLIANT and you should keep that big, fat number in mind. That is something to really be proud of.

Secondly, muscle weighs more than fat. You are exercising and building new muscles. You probably lost at least two pounds of fat but built muscle, which I am very envious of in the nicest possible way
