    Re: British doctor endorses Atkins

That's good to know. She's been arpund in magazines and TV for years giving advice. She's right I think - it is a lot due to genes.

For me Atkins seems right, but I think for others, like my husband, it wouldn't be the same.

Here, she explains why she is a fan of the high protein, low carb weight loss programme.

I would be more comforted by her opinion if I thought she really was talking about Atkins. Atkins is not high protein. Induction looks more like 65 percent fat, 30 percent protein, and 5 percent carbs. Moving up through OWL to maintenance, fat percentage decreases as carb percentage increases. Protein should stay around 30 percent. Is that not medium rather than high? Or, if I were a doctor or a researcher, would I then understand 30 percent to be high?

I think that compared to the diet of what most people are eating now, it is higher in protein that what they normally do. For example, breakfast usually consists of all carbohydrates i.e cereals, toast, bagels. I think she just left out the fat part. That seems to be the thing that people can't wrap their heads around since we have had it pounded into our heads since children (I'm in my late 30's) that the only way to lose weight is low fat.

Erin, people are forever misquoting and misrepresenting the Atkins Diet -- even some of those who have followed it!

Maggies -- you are right. Sometimes people want to avoid speaking about the fat because they know the whole world has been brainwashed i.e. fat=instant heart attack.

It sounds like she was interviewed, which means it was the writer of the story that called it high protein/low carb... I'll be happy if I ever hear high fat/low carb...

                Re: British doctor endorses Atkins

Well, I'm happy someone said good things about it for a change. Was just reading a post by someone wondering if it was unhealthy. I am eating foods my whole family has been telling are good for me since I was a child. I eat what they mostly ate meat and veggies. My grandparents are pushing 90 and still going strong. So my genes must be right for this diet. My jeans say they ARE!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                2nd mini goal: 140!
                3rd mini goal:135!
                4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

For what it's worth, the article was from 6 years ago.
