  • Starting off Atkins in a bakery.

I'm going to school to be a pastry chef, and I'm around sweets allllll day long! Has anyone had to do this? It's so hard to not taste what I'm assigned to bake. I've gotten to the point where I don't bring any yummy cookies (and my friend made Apricot Rugulas yesterday) and other pastries, but I'm having problems with snacking in class. Imagine being around a bunch of people that love eating the stuff that you're trying your hardest not to eat? It's so hard! I smell it and breathe it in, but it's sooo hard. Anybody have any pointers?

Well, my partner bakes ALL THE TIME, and it is incredibly difficult. I'm not going to lie and say its just going to take time...it will be hard!

However, I think most will agree with me that as you progress through your Induction period your desire for sweets does lessen. Each day it will get easier, and don't kill yourself or your diet over the occasional cheat. Pick yourself up, put down that torte, and keep on plugging.

    You can TOTALLY do this!

Re: Starting off Atkins in a bakery.

I wish you alot of luck is such a diffucult position. I know that I would struggle with working in a bakery. However, I have found that with the right mindset I am able to bake sweet snacks for my family (occasionally) without touching even so much as a drop. I can walk down the ice cream isle and pick something out for my girls without a second thought...I never touch it. I have a hard time with smelling chocolate but I get through it without touching it. My one secret weapon is that when I REALLY want something sweet (which is very rare now), I eat a couple ounces of the sharpest cheddar cheese I can find. The fatty snack and the sharp flavor just work for me most of the time. If it doesn't work I go for a walk and then I am past it.

I really think with the right mindset you will do fine. As Jacqui said if you do end up falling off the wagon...stand up, brush off, and jump back on as quickly as you can. Then figure out exactly what caused the hiccup and figure out what you need to do to head it off at the pass the next time.

Good luck...and remember we are here for support in those weak moments!

Probably not the same, but my sister works in a coffee shop and manages to do Atkins without any of the yummy drinks. It's just willpower.

Lots of us still cook "regular" food for our families...mac & cheese, spaghetti, even desserts...without cheating. It's just willpower for me so far!

Well do try get threw induction cheat-free. Ofcourse after I do this I feel the need to reward myself......lol There is big difference between a bite and half a cake in the end too, so get back on it before you go for seconds. It gets easier. I use to bribe myself with a freebie once a week in the beginning. I found out a cookie or a slice or pizza a week didn't kill me, a cookie and slice of pizza and some potatos did kill me. So you can do it without being 100% perfect all the time, you only gotta be perfect say 98% of the time, lol. You can do it!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

            1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
            2nd mini goal: 140!
            3rd mini goal:135!
            4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Re: Starting off Atkins in a bakery.

Some people swear that dill pickles (make sure they are sugar free) help kill that sweet craving - similar to the cheese (I find both help for me). I also found that once I started losing...I didn't want to stop - I didn't want to cheat because I really wanted to lose the weight. Remember what your personal motivation was for starting this WOE, and think of that when you are tempted. I think about being able to shop in normal stores, being able to wear cute clothes, being able to skijor with my dogs...all the things I want to do when I'm thinner Hope this helps.

Re: Starting off Atkins in a bakery.

thanks for all the responses, i went through the day without eating any sweets, except for a small bite of my brownies, and a little lick of the batter. but that's it. it's a big improvement from the other day.

i'm not really sure on the dill pickle/sharp cheese thing. after eating something like that i usually want something sweet to wash the taste out my mouth! lol. i have the biggest sweet tooth ever.

thanks for all the positive support too! i haven't started induction yet cuz i'm still reading the book and i haven't gotten to that part yet. i can't wait though! i'm so excited.

Re: Starting off Atkins in a bakery.

If its any help I know a woman who lost 100lbs even though she worked in a supermarket with an in-house bakery and the air was full of bakery smells. I know its not the same because you have to taste your foods, but she did have salivation all the time!
