Ok this may be a stupid question but here it goes. I have a digital scale and an old style dial scale. Now if I put a 10lb weight on either it registers 10lbs but if I get on them there is always a 2 pound difference. The digital is always 2lbs more. Anyone know which one might be accurate? I have tried several different digital ones (borrowed from family) and 2 different dial ones and always the digitals are 2 pounds more. I heard if you move at all on the digital ones they can register wrong. ensive

I can't really answer your question, but I wanted to add that my digital scale acts funky sometimes too. If I get on my scale, weigh myself, get off, and get back on I will usually get two different weights. It's usually off by only a tenth of a kilo or two, but it's still annoying that I never know which one to trust. :raving

Maybe it's true that if you move it changes it.

You could be standing on the scale and have uneven weight. Some scales of you lean either way you get a false reading. The 10 lbs weight is the same no matter where you put it. Try taking that weight and put it on one side of the scale and then the other to see if thats the problem. Same with the dail, and even better yet forget the scale, its better at lying than a lawyer turned into a politician!

There are many reasons for the difference, the moral of the story throw the scales out and get a tape measure, I have a Myotape those work well. You could also pick up a good tape at a fabric store they should have a wide array of tapes from cheap to cadilac models.

I used to work in a restaurant and they had a big meat scale. When they weighted 10kg meat, it would weigh just that - but when one of us stood on it it would be about 2kg more than what we normally weighed. The reason for this is that something like meat is dead weight - while a human is live weight - if that makes sense.
Your digital scale will be more accurate. Choose one scale and stick to it. At some stage I had four scales - because they all gave different answers. So I gave three away and use only one. I never weigh myself on someone elses scale -

I get on once and whatever it says is what I count (if I like it or not!).

I'd take the one that shows the lower number!! LOL

I have scale problems, too. My problem is that my scale isn't moving again!

Not a stupid question at all- in fact your question gave me an idea,to use weights on them to see which is more accurate as i have 2 scales that also read a 10lb difference :yikes so i am using the new one but deducting the weight difference because that is what i started with so it may be that im 10lbs heavier then what i thoguht but at least its the same scale so the lbs are still dropping off. congrats on your progres so far
