  • What do you think?

Lately I have been finding myself slipping without even noticing until the damage is done. I was thinking of re-doing induction just to break the habits again. Just for a week or two. I haven't gained but I sure feel bloated.

Do you guys (and gals) think this is a good idea? I really did enjoy the induction phase, got me back into eating my veggies.

I would think that if you did go back to Induction your body would have the chance to readjust to this WOE..it will also help negate any cravings that you may have. I would give it a shot!

    Good luck!

If you are still in ketosis, Induction won't do much. If, however, you aren't, then I would do Induction for a few days, just to get back in ketosis. Then you could continue where you left off.

Did you slip badly, with super carby stuff? Or just overate "legal" foods? Maybe there's a food that's been causing you cravings. Did you check for this in your food journal?

Your stats say you're on OWL Rung 8. What's your carb level?

How long have you been on this "slipping" course?

Did you notice that this coincided with any foods or any particular Rung? If it does then drop those foods and see if you regain your eating control.

This happens on OWL particularly if you aren't paying attention to how foods are affecting you. That's why it's a good idea to take the Blood Sugar Instability Test from time to time.

          Re: What do you think?

By what I can tell I still am in ketosis since I am still losing weight (but I am bloated). I went from 158 last week to 156 this week but I am bloated back to 158 today (It is close to TTOM).

Did you slip badly, with super carby stuff?
Not really. Just like a bite of pizza crust, or a bite of cake. But a bite is a bite. I was a big bread eater and sometimes the smell of the bakery by my house can send me craving.

Did you check for this in your food journal?
I have. I added corn as my starchy veggie but it was only a 2 tbs about a week ago. I stopped as soon as I noticed my "picking" and I really don't think that was it.

Your stats say you're on OWL Rung 8. What's your carb level?
I skipped rung 7 for now because I can't find reasonably priced fruit here at the moment. I found my CCLL around rung 4 and it was 40. I noticed that days I worked out I could get away with 45, maybe 50 depending on what I did. At the moment I am eating around 35 to 40 NET carbs because I haven't been moving as much as I was due to a sore knee (feel off a roof when I was 15 and damaged my knees and hips, now it acts up when the weather changes).

How long have you been on this "slipping" course?
I think it has been about a week since I noticed it, but has probably been going on for about 3 weeks.

Did you notice that this coincided with any foods or any particular Rung?
Like I said I already dropped the corn but it hasn't helped.

This happens on OWL particularly if you aren't paying attention to how foods are affecting you. That's why it's a good idea to take the Blood Sugar Instability Test from time to time.
I guess I could try a little harder to keep my food in track. Just to monitor it and see what might be the problem. My father was diagnosed about 2 months ago with diabetes and tried to take my blood to see what my number was (here they use 1-30, with the normal being around 8...his was 27!) but I am afraid of needles :P I always checked my grandmothers blood sugar because I was the only one who wasn't afraid of blood but thinking of that thing poking my finger freaks me out .

I guess I can track my foods closely for a week and see if anything sparks my cravings.

I hate the word cheating because cheating is something you do on purpose, slipping sounds more like something you couldn't control Just if anyone wondered.

Track your foods very carefully. If you felt like you were slipping 3 weeks ago---review your foods. And I mean every single one of your foods: including the ingredients and the amounts you have been eating.

A bite of this or a bite of that still contains carbs! So be mindful of these little bites.

You probably won't try corn again soon, but it's a grain, not a starchy vegetable.

Really? Haha! Imagine that! I guess I won't be having that any more, thankfully it was only one day with 2 tbs last week. Where can I find a list of "Starchy Veggies". Is there one in the book...I honestly don't remember.

I am going to carefully track my foods and keep an eye our for what is making me crave.

I poke my finger twice a day (sometimes more) -- it doesn't hurt, it's more like a pinch. When I first started I had it in my mind it would feel like pain....it's not that bad. Luckily for you it's not a necessity to poke your finger.

What? Corn is one of the "eat rarely" starchy veggies:
                    Starchy Vegetables
                    Keep all portions small
                    Carrots
                    Green Peas
                    Acorn squash
                    Butternut squash

                    Eat rarely:
                    Corn
                    Potatoes
                    Sweet potatoes
There has to be a larger list of starchy veggies somewhere...there just seems like there are more of them than listed above.

Is that list from Atkins for life? The list on pg 202 does not mention corn (but then again the lists are not complete in any sense of the word) I tried plantain the other day as a starchy vegetables. That was nice.

No, I copied/pasted that list from here. My DANDR book is out in my car and I didn't feel like going out to get it.

                        Plantains sound yummie.

ETA: I don't know why *I'm* thinking about corn...I'm nowheres near that rung! Maybe because I hung up some Indian corns for decorations??

G just let me know that corn in DANDR is listed under grains on page 203. So according to DANDR (and botanists everywhere) corn is a grain

Wow...I never stopped to really think about it but you're right. (Sorry G...I should have known better than to question you! ) I think I got this from years of looking at food lists where corn was under the starchy veggie category.
