Ugh!! 3 weeks now, and the weight loss is SOOOOO slow!

  • Ugh!! 3 weeks now, and the weight loss is SOOOOO slow!

    It will be 3 weeks Monday (I started September 7th) since I began Induction, and it's going so agonizingly slow. I envy those people who dropped 10-12 lbs right away on Induction. I have a very supportive, "Atkins-friendly" doctor who just told me that some people have severe metabolic resistance, and it's just going to be slow going. I just have to stick with it. The weight is steadily coming off at about 2 to 2 1/2 lbs per week, which is what most other "typical" diets recommend. And I can see that there's definite improvement as far as inches lost. But it's just painfully slow. I'm going to try to move to OWL this upcoming week and see if that doesn't help.

    I know that it took many years for it to all be put on, so I'm not expecting the whole thing to drop off in a month. But still...

    Is anyone else having the same problem? It's not my menu (I've triple checked it) or water or exercise. I'm doing all three diligently. I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has the metabolism of a turtle. It's a little hard for me to hang out at the Induction board because I have to admit I'm a teeny bit envious of all those "big losers."

    I think that 7 pounds loss is fantastic. Imagine if you had to put that back on in a moment - you wouldn't want it back and now it's GONE!! If you want it to come off a little quicker maybe extra exercise, but in the meantime I think you've done great. Keep going - we're all in this together. Mines' quite slow too but I am determined to be "beautiful" again and this is it. These boards are fantastic - so much support and know that everyone is supporting you on here (including me). Good luck

      Thanks -- that's a pretty positive way of looking at that. I really needed that. It also doesn't help that I'm watching Biggest Loser and seeing 10+ lbs lost in one week. I know, I know... I don't have a full-time trainer and all of that.

      My hubby just bought be a treadmill (necessary with winter coming up -- my days of walking outdoors on the wooded trails are coming to an end), so maybe I can work myself up to jogging and move things along that way.

        I don't think your weight loss is "SOOOOO slow". From one of your previous posts, I see you've lost 6 lbs during your first two weeks of Induction. That is over 13% of the weight you needed to lose when you started and shows that you are not metabolically resistant, but rather have an average degree of metabolic resistance (see the charts in DANDR). You're doing good. Kudos for deciding to take the step to OWL.

          Not only that, but you also have less to lose. That's why I gave your weight loss in %, so that you see how much you've lost relative to how much you had to lose. For someone overweight by 100 lbs to lose over 13% of their body weight, they should have lost over 13 lbs.

              Wow, Georgiana, I've been dealing with the same frustrations as Michigal...as my weight loss has been pretty slow in the last week or so but I love the way you put her weight loss into a percentage.

              I had a total of 102 pounds to lose (wow, is admitting that painful), and I've lost 12..so I've lost 11.76% of the weight I need to within 4 weeks of my diet. Hitting 11% in 4 weeks is kind of impressive when you think about it. Its almost 3% per week.

              Michigal, just keep plugging away, we can totally do this!

                I suggest you check the metabolic resistance charts in the book. Because from the way I'm interpreting the chart, you're not metabolically resistant. But please double check me, in case I'm mis-reading.

                  I tend to lose even less than you and I have significantly more to lose than you do so count your blessings. Try not to focus on the speed of loss so much as the fact that you ARE LOSING! It will come--and keeping in mind that you took a long time to put it on DOES keep it in perspective. I think you are doing great!

                    I would be thrilled with 2 - 2 1/2 lbs a week, LOL! I average 1-2 but have ended up losing 20 lbs in 2 months which sounds good to me....

                    maybe if I was doing nothing but appearing on a weightloss TV show all week, I'd end up losing 10 lbs in a wk rather than a month, but I'm not, LOL!! (plus I think about all that extra loose skin that such rapid weightloss is going to leave behind and I am not so jealous anymore...)

                      Going slower will get you there. Plus you'll make changes in the way you eat that are more likely to LAST! I've had stops and starts and slow weightloss and stalls and cheats. I have actually watched how I eat change. I've watched my cheating habits and foods change. My skin ain't doing too bad either. I am just now thinking of making eating real food a lifestyle change and doing the maintance plan when I get there. That was not the plan when I thought I could loose x amount of pounds and be free go back to my evil ways! If I had of been one of the fast loosers, I'd be here anyway cause I did it went off and gained a bunch back. Now that it has taken this long, I want to make sure to just do it ONCE!



                      My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                      1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                      2nd mini goal: 140!
                      3rd mini goal:135!
                      4th mini goal: 130!

                      I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

                        My plan is to get up tomorrow thinking positively and appreciating what I've accomplished so far.
