Just a quick question about ketosis. My weight isn't coming off, but I am constantly in ketosis. I was just wondering if I am still losing fat even though the scale isn't moving?

Since I'm not as experienced as most of you folks, I would assume that being in ketosis means that I am still losing fat regardless of what the scale says. I'm trying very hard not to get depressed about what the scale shows in the mornings, but it is a little demotivating.

    Here's what I typically eat:

    Breakfast:
    2 - 3 eggs
    1c Peppers OR 1/2 c mushrooms + 1/2 c lettuce
    2oz Cheese (occasionally)
    2tbsp Caesar dressing
    2tbsp Salsa (occasionally)

    Lunch:
    1/2lbs Beef
    1 c Mushrooms or peppers
    2tbsp mayo or ranch

    Dinner:
    1/2lbs Beef
    1 c Lettuce
    2tbsp Caesar or Ranch dressing
    2tbsp Salsa

I'm trying to add more fat, but I think if I add any more I'll be sick

I'm drinking all my water, and I don't exercise....yet. I haven't taken measurements yet either because I can't find one at Walmart, but I have another plan, so I'll try to keep track of that too.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Ketosis

You started eating like this in August and you have not lost any weight? Or have you lost some (it looks like that according your signature) and since stalled a bit?
Measurements is great - everyone should do those
    Menu is pretty good.

Tape measures are usually where the sewing/crafts section is. Most stores carry them, sometimes even grocery or pharmacy chains. In the meantime, you can download and print one (you have to cut out and tape the pieces together).

        Re: Ketosis

Liv, I've lost 12 lbs in the beginning, then things got crazy over here with stress and stuff, so I went off of Atkins for nearly 2 weeks. I started again on Monday and have lost 4lbs so far, but there has been no change in my weight for 3 days.

Thanks you Mizski! I'll go have a look at Walmart again (I have to go anyway) but if I can't find it I'll definitely print one It's rather difficult to shop properly when you have the kids with you

This is not unusual, we do not lose weight in even steps, even on the first 2 weeks of induction, so a standstill or even a gain on the scales is absolutley normal once you have done your first 2 weeks. In fact there is even a name for the usual 'delay' during the 3rd/4th weeks of Atkins, called the 'post induction stall syndrome (p.i.s.s.).

Did you work our your metabolic resistance to weightloss from your first losses over the first 14 days on induction?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Being in ketosis is no guarantee that you'll lose weight ... or even that you're doing Atkins properly.

Have you journaled your menu to see how many net carbs you're getting ... how many calories (as a reference)?

It's possible you're undereating ... and your body is in famine mode.

How much WATER are you drinking per day?

                Re: Ketosis

I just figured it out! It must be TOM (thanks to another post I just read) I've been so busy that I completely forgot. It just has to be......pleeeeeeeease let it be!

As for the other questions, I drink all my water every day, but most of it later at night when the kids have gone to bed. That's about the only time I realize how thirsty I am.

My calories are generally around 1500 to 2000 and my fat/prot/carb ratio is about 75/20/5.

I don't know yet what my metabolic resistance is, because I went off of Atkins before I finished my initial induction (for about 2 weeks). I've been back on a clean induction for about 1 1/2 weeks, and have now only lost a total 5lbs (since last week Monday).

If it's not what I think it is, I'll be rather disappointed.

Is that a range that is 10-12 times your current body weight?

That's a good rule of thumb number of calories.

If you don't eat enough ... both in carbs or calories, you don't lose.

Also ... try having water throughout the day ... it's not good to have it all at once ... or in a short period of time.

                    Re: Ketosis

I didn't have a regular "sewing type" tape measure at first either - I used a string, and then measured the string on my regular metal tape measure from my toolbox. Not perfect, but it works.
