  • Has anyone read Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes?

Taubes is the science journalist who wrote the famous What If It's All A Big Fat Lie article for the NYT.

Here's the Amazon link for his book. I am interested but a bit put off by the reviews that say it's too data-intensive and/or technical for laypersons. Does anyone have any experience to share?

    Thanks!

First 100 pages are thick but then it picks up. I liked kessler's book better but they're both must reads.

It's definitely worth the time. I recommend it when someone tries to put down the low-carb lifestyle.

It is quite technical. In my opinion it was necessary to write it that way, including all the studies and references to lectures in order to prevent the culprits from wriggling out of taking responsibility for their pronouncements. That said, it really opened my eyes to the way some in the scientific community, the nutrition community especially, are more interested in protecting their own reputations than in finding the truth. He also proposes some hypotheses that in my opinion deserve serious study.

I have read that he is coming out with a more lay person-friendly version in the near future.

Here's a fairly recent discussion on Taubes book. Personally, I'm waiting for the new version.
