  • How Long Does It Take To Knock Me Out of Ketosis?

Yesterday was very bad. I had a 'Cheat Day' but I'm back on track today. I'm a bit confused about ketosis though. :confused I checked with ketostix last night (dark purple). I checked again this morning. I even checked four times, 2 from one bottle and 2 from another, and I'm still showing in the medium range for ketosis today. How long does it take for a 'cheat' to knock you out of ketosis? If it's gonna do it, then get it done so I can look forward to getting back in to ketosis. I'm assuming it is going to knock me out of ketosis, because I just did a carb count for yesterday and it was 279 :yikes :yikes :yikes I thought maybe I have faulty ketostix, but one bottle is about a month old and the other is about 2 weeks old. Both have been kept tightly closed in the cabinet. Two years ago when I lost 50 pounds on Atkins I did cheat a few times, but each time I got so sick from the carbs that I just wanted to die. It sure made it easier not to cheat! But this time nothing. My sticks don't show I'm out of ketosis, and the carb overload didn't make me sick. That's NOT a good thing. It will be too easy to cheat if I know there are no repercussions from it.

as soon as those carbs are absorbed to into your blood stream you are no longer fat burning as the primary fuel until they are expended and your insuklin levels go back down. How long that takes will depend you your metabolic rate, what you actually ate and your digestive system.

Stix only measure the concentration of excess ketones in your system at the time that urine was created. Cheating does not remove the ketones already swimming around in the blood stream and they stay there until they are either burned up or expelled.

The bad thing about a high carb cheat is that the fats you ate do not get burned up and since their isn't any need for then right now they have to move from the intestins to the blood stram to the fat cells :sadblinky so that is why cheating is bad.

    Happy low carbing.

That was a good question. I'm sure glad you asked it. Yeah, because I would've thought the same thing too about the Ketones still showing up on the stick was a good thing, but I see a cheat is a cheat is a cheat. Good Luck though.

well, not sure if you will go thru withdrawl or not. That is one of those "individual things" that depends on your body.

Also, you are not supposed to test first thing in the morning, or after workouts. You get a false reading. It is recommended to test two hours after eating. As far as what the metabolic reprecussions of cheating are, here's how I react:
