    you to loose 50 lbs?

I am starting Atkins on Sunday, reading the book and sucking up all the information I can so I fully understand what I am doing and have menu's in toe with me so I have lots of things I can eat.

I am going to loose 50 lbs and I know everyone is different but I am just curious as to how long everyone took to lose 50 lbs so I am able to set goals and mini goals that make sense and are not off the wall. I assume 3 lbs a week goals should be good so it should be about 16 weeks for me. Just looking to see others success so that it motivates.

Heck not being able to do up my favorite jeans this am was a kick in the pants (no pun intended lol) but all the help I can get is awesome.

I am not posting pictures. I am to ashamed of myself
I am not fat, I am fluffy....

    Weight - 167 LBS
    Current - 161 LBS
    Goal - 117 LBS to 110 LBS

    Restart Nov. 2/2009
I need all the help and support I can get, Please feel free to message me.

    mini goal - 157 LBS
    mini goal - 147 LBS
    mini goal - 130 LBS

I have not lost 50 lbs (yet ? ) I started at your weight though almost two years ago. Well my goal was to get to 125 and Iam around there now.
This is going to depend on how tall you are right now and your age and your metabolism and your gender and a few other factors.

Setting mini goals is great. But you don't have to set them with time limits. We acually recommend no time on goals as that sets us up for failure if we happen not to reach them.
Weightloss is also very irregular some months you may lose zero other a lot more. Hard to predict.
good job on getting started (just about). I hope everything works out just fine.

      Previous Post

As for your question- You can reasonably expect to remove 5-10% (2.5-5lbs) of the total amount of weight you need to remove during a clean two week induction. Anything less than that would be indicative of a level of metabolic resistance. Anything more than that is a GIFT. Your expectations of yourself and your goals have to stay realistic. We all want to remove it RIGHT NOW, but the reality is that we have ZERO control over that. What you do have control over is what you eat, how often and hard you exercise, how much water you drink, what supplements you take, etc. How fast your body releases the fat isn't something we can dictate, so dictate the heck out of the things you can.

A fair and realistic goal is to remove 1-2lbs a week.

It took me 8 months to remove the first 52lbs.

Ps. It really depends on how much you execise, how strict you are etc and just your body itself. If you work hard I think you can get there.

Re: Just curious if I may ask...How long did it take

First, of all, if you do Atkins, decide you will follow it as it is written in DANDR 2002 by Dr. Atkins and don't take short cuts, don't cheat, don't drink the first two weeks, no frankenfoods ... in other words be educated about the way the plan works, the acceptable food list, the rules of induction, when you eat, supplements, exercise, hydration, when you move on from induction, etc..

Clearly, only then, will you have the best success with the plan.

Event driven weight loss can sometimes be disappointing to people and it derails them. This is a way of eating for life and not just an event driven diet. Weight losses vary based on a variety of factors such as whether you have realistic goals, height, weight history, hormones, water retention, medications you are on.

There are no guarantees on the amount you will lose by December 25, 2009. I would just say that if you follow it as it is written in DANDR 2002 and understand the science behind it as Dr. Atkins describes, then you will lose weight.

              Best wishes.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

This is the best advice that anyone can give you. We are all at the mercy of the scale and all we can do is our very best.

As for my weight loss, I lost 40#s in 10 weeks. No cheats or frankenfoods. I've read DANDR and continue to reference it. I read a lot of the posts here for tips. I eat mainly whole foods and exercise as much as I can. I lost momentum last week and a good part of this week because of surgery and I'll lose a couple of weeks again soon for surgery pt. 2.

I have been trying to lose weight for over 15 years. I am getting older and running out of time. I made up my mind that I AM going to do my best with Atkins and so far the scale is showing me I'm doing pretty good. How much will I weigh by the end of the year? Who knows...all I do know is that it will be less than I do now.

Good luck and do your best.

I have lost 35lbs in about 5 months. My advice...listen to the others advice about induction and don't be afraid of OWL. I went to OWL and it kick started my weight loss and as long as I am faithful to it, I have continued to lose while learning how to eat properly.

Good luck! You can do it!

Re: Just curious if I may ask...How long did it take

Let me clarify I started back on induction becuase I came out of ketosis from surgery last week and the glucose they gave me in my iv. I am doing induction for 2 weeks and then going to start moving up the rungs as well. I am *officially* down 23 pounds (lost only 1 pound last week due to surgery and not really eating).

But before surgery I was exercising, lifting weights, 20 minutes of cardio and VERY strict with following the book. I even have an atkins carb counter on my phone and LOG every single ingredient that goes into my mouth. But I definitely want to start moving up the rungs.

Good luck - you can do it you just have to stick to it, exercise, drink that water, and get support....

I have lost 42 lbs in 7 months... (average of 6 lbs per month)... 2 lbs per week would be a dream come true for me... but alas, my body wants to lose at its own speed which is 1.5 lbs per week... at my rate you would lose 50 lbs in 33 weeks... that's with no cheats and daily exercise... but you are different, so it's impossible to say

Re: Just curious if I may ask...How long did it take

I've lost 30 pounds in right at 3 months. I have a considerable amount to lose, however, so that probably changes things. At my weight, I think 10 pounds a month is reasonable, but I wouldn't be unhappy with 8. I imagine as I get within maybe 20 or 30 pounds of my goal weight, it will slow down but who knows.

I do know that since I started reducing my intake of cheese, cream, and watching how much salt I take in every day over the past week or so the pace has been picking up. I also lost more this past month than previous months, probably because during the first month or so I was eating too many things with artificial sweeteners OTHER than splenda or stevia. Once I cut those out, it got going again.

I worked out some goals for myself, not that I can really control them as long as I stay on plan but just to see how long it might reasonably take to get to goal, and I calculated it at 10 pounds per month for the first 50 or so pounds I need to lose out of a hundred +, and then maybe 8 pounds a month for another 20 or 30 pounds, and then maybe 5 or 6 pounds a month for the last 20 or so pounds. I hope it works out somewhere about like this.

But ultimately, all you can do is follow the plan and keep it simple and not add in questionable items to the best of your ability, try to drink the water you need daily, and try to exercise to the best of your ability. And then, any loss is great - at whatever rate your body will do.

                        Good luck!

My first 100 lbs I lost in 10 months.
I averaged about ten pounds a month. 10 lbs. = one size down each time for me.

I'm at 50lbs in 5 months, but the last month has come to a crawl. I also found I was getting lazy in the water department. I started drinking the recommended water again, and I am back on the losing track. You have to remember that everyone is different. Sometimes people with more weight to lose tend to lose larger amounts in the beginning, but the closer you get to your goal, the slower it will get, especially if you are following the diet properly and going up the rungs. Things will naturally slow, but in order to keep this weight off, you need to follow this plan the way it is recommended. Also, men tend to lose weight faster.
Just keep to the plan, and don't get discouraged if you don't lose it as quickly as you want. I am feeling the best I have felt in years, mentally and physically. Keep with this board as I have found it to be the best support system that I have ever had. There is a large cross section of people on here that are experiencing things in different and very similair ways, and it helps to keep me on track knowing that other people are experiencing the same things I am.
