    Re: In need of comfort...

I like positive reinforcement - I put a picture on the fridge and a few near the treadmill of me when I was much closer to goal weight. I enjoy looking at them, and find it a pleasant reminder of where I am headed again.

I find walking, listening to upbeat music, and drinking extra (non-caffeinated) fluids are the absolute best and quickest way to dump stress and negative feelings almost immediately. If I can coordinate it, I do all three at the same time, LOL! Sometimes I follow this up with a phone call to one of my more positive, upbeat, and energetic buddies.

      Re: In need of comfort...

I don't like the darker winter days either. I tend to crank up all the lights in the house if I am feeling draggy and sad and it does seem to help some. In the middle of winter, I have at times gone shopping, which I generally hate, just to put myself in the most brightly lit store I can think of - a big one, so that I can get some exercise and kill an hour in the brighter lights walking around, whether I buy anything or not ;-) In extreme cases, years ago, I would occasionally make a few visits to the tanning bed also - not for the tan, but because it seemed to perk up my mood.

I really think I am going to invest in a SAD (seasonal affective disorder) lightbox to use this upcoming winter - I think they run $75 to several hundred bucks depending on the design, size, and brand. Maybe full spectrum bulbs of some kind in the regular light fixtures would help also, haven't really checked into anything like that before but have meant to do so.

Maybe if I get a SAD light box, I will put it where I can use it while I'm on the treadmill listening to some lively music and drinking some ice water, that combo would dang near HAVE to be an instant cure for me, LOL!

Painting is the number one activity for me but sometimes i am just not in the mood. THATS when I get into trouble...
        JILL

It's not about the results. Its about the process.
