  • Are you an eating machine some days?

I feel like there are some days where I can eat all day and some where I can go hours and feel okay. I'm definitely not eating any hidden sugars and I don't eat artificial sweeteners. I'm eating all legal stuff. I do exercise but it doesn't necessarily correlate to that. I really enjoy Sheila's site and she said she doesn't count cals and when she has out of curiosity, it's like over 2000 and that's way more than she ate before.

I think I'm making progress but I'm worried I am eating too much. Do you think Atkins works because you have less appetite and therefore eat fewer calories over time or do you think you just become more efficient at burning the calories you do take in?

I don't weigh often or I freak out. I took measurements instead but just did that this week and won't remeasure for awhile. I had a lot of success with this way of life in the past, but had to go off for medical reasons. I can't remember what I usually ate then. More snacking, smaller meals or bigger meals and less snacking? I can't remember what I did. I've been back on since March, but went off this summer. I kept cheating because my doc had me doing no eggs and no dairy and I was getting sooo frustrated that I would cheat way too often. Anyway, I've been extremely good the last 3 weeks and think I'm losing, but sometimes I just think I eat too much.

    Sorry so long...got carried away!

Oh and in case you want a sample diet, here's today:

breakfast - 2.5 egg omelet with 1.5-2 oz cheese, 2 slices nitrate free natural bacon (0 carbs in it)

    snack - 3 chicken wings

lunch - 3 oz chicken on lettuce with caesar dressing on the side (would have had more chicken, but it was at a restaurant)

snack - egg salad (2 eggs, 1 T mayo), small tomato from my garden, 1 string cheese

    snack - 2 more wings

dinner - sirloin steak, salad with caesar dressing

I don't usually have wings, but I was really hungry and they were leftovers. I made sure I evaluated whether I was hungry before I ate them. Ooh, I just thought of something...I usually have 4 eggs for breakfast and my lunch is usually bigger. Maybe that's why I am ravenous tonight. I didn't eat enough earlier on. I had lunch early too because of a meeting. Maybe that's it and I'm stressing for nothing.

I thought we didn't have to count calories on induction?!?!?

Some days I eat more than others...today, I could eat a horse This is normal...our bodies tell us what we need.

The schedule change can definitely have an effect...Its funny how our bodies get used to being fed a certain amount at a certain time

Re: Are you an eating machine some days?

Hopin, you are not alone. I will go 6 hours and be surprised I have skipped a mealtime some days and others I seem to migrate towards the kitchen every five minutes to fill the bottomless pit in my stomach.

Kriewe, we don't count calories but Dr A advised us to eat only when physically hungry (as opposed to mindlessly munching from boredom or whatever). Most folks eat reasonable quantities of food but I have always had a big appetite and can easily go to 2200 calories a day and sometimes even more. Since menopause that's a recipe for disaster for me. So even though Atkins does not require you to count calories, it assumes you are eating only enough to satiate you. For those of us with big appetites and slow metabolism, I am afraid calories do still count.

Re: Are you an eating machine some days?

I get 2.5 eggs by splitting a 5 egg omelet with hubby.

Thanks Chinadoll. I am definitely being very careful to not eat impulsively and really ask myself if I'm hungry or just craving. I'm sure I'm just hungry so I guess I just relax and realize that some days will be hungrier days than others. Thanks for the reassurance.
