  • Just an update...

It has come to some peoples attention that I am not as active this month with the exercise challenges and other challenges. I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression because as you know I am loving the exercise.

On September 30th I began having some stomach pains which would come and go. By October 2nd they had become so bad that I couldn't even eat a tbsp of chicken soup without being in terrible pain shortly after. I even had to call my boyfriend home because I seriously thought I was dying.

October 3rd and 4th I slept through, only waking when the pain became so bad from not eating that I would give in and have a little bit of something. I started feeling better on the 4th and decided to have some "solid" food. This was a very bad idea.

It is now October 6th and for the past two days I haven't been able to eat anything, it has come to the point that I refuse to eat just so the pain don't increase (I know bad, bad!). I finally gave in and started nibbling on wasa crackers (70% wholegrain, 24% fiber, 6% mystery - No Sugar or sweetners). So far they have caused the least pain but I still do have the throbbing pain after eating them but it takes a little longer to get there. I know this isn't part of my rung but I couldn't think of anything else.

I have been reading up on how to sooth the stomach in a natural way (I am all for homeopathic remedies) but so far none have worked. I have a doctors appointment today at 4:15pm. I should have made one earlier but I have no insurance...Now it can't come soon enough. I haven't really slept in almost a week (I wake up so many times because of the pain).

So for now this tired and hungry person is going to go cuddle up in bed with a ton of blankets (I keep getting very cold) and try to get a little more sleep. If that doesn't happen then I will play some silly game until I pass out.

Take care all and I will update you as soon as I know something (so later today hopefully )

Fingers crossed the doctor will figure out quickly what's going on and you'll be back on your feet in no time.

I'm surprised you're allowed not to have a medical insurance in the Netherlands, as a student. At our university you need to provide a proof of medical insurance to enroll (they need it to get us a residence permit, I believe).

I'd better go do some push-ups now, before Sergeant Jill shows up.

Ok so I just got back home. I have a obstruction in my large intestine. Because of this my intestine is swollen and inflamed. I was prescribed Lactulos Actavis 670mg/ml. She told me it would take about a week to start feeling back to normal since it is pretty sever. I take the medicine before bed so now all I have to do is wait until bedtime....

              Re: Just an update...

This is the third time I have tried to update...my computer stinks so I will keep it short and sweet :

              Day 1 of Recovery:

Woke up with some slight stomach discomfort but decided to take a walk with boyfriend.
While out on walk we stopped at the store where I had to make an emergency visit to the ladies room.
When I got home I took a shower and then realized: I am freaking hungry for the first time in a week...
Ate some food and waited for the pain...no pain. So I ate some more and still no pain. I became nauseated due to eating to much.
              Took a nap.
I awoke with a sore throat (thanks bubba for not covering your mouth when you cough!) and slight stomach discomfort.
Became hungry again and ate. Still no pain.
Now it is 5:30am and I am feeling ok. Slight pain in lower stomach area and left side.
Will take medicine again when I go to bed and hope I sleep through the night.

                      Did the obstruction go away???
I'm not sure to be honest. I was given a very sweet medicine (kind of taste like burned sugar) that is supposed to be taken before bed time. It works by drawing the water from my body and placing it in my intestine to "soften" everything down so it can pass (sorry if TMI).

Well what has been happening (2 days now) is I take it and then go to bed. Within 30 minutes I am up and running to the bathroom because it draws to much fluid at once and there is no where for it to go. Yesterday I passed only fluid (sorry TMI) but today it was firmer (feeling sick yet? :P).

The doctor told me it could take up to a week to pass everything and to just make sure I am getting enough fiber and easy digestible grains (oatmeal mostly) to help push it down. I added in some yogurt which has probifidus (sp? Good bacteria) just on good measure.

I was going to get some oatmeal this morning to eat with the yogurt but it seems to have gone missing...must be the goblins. Strange how a lot of food has disappeared since my brother moved in...

I have been awake for a while now (since my nap yesterday) and am a little nauseated because the medicine is so sweet (She promised me it wouldn't raise my blood sugar). I have moved back into my bedroom with the laptop so I can rest my sore body.

BTW: I found my leg brace so my knee should be back to normal in no time.

You poor thing. Be sure you get the oatmeal or you won't have the bulk to move things along. Hide it under the bed if necessary.

Day 2 (and part of 3) of Recovery:

I am feeling 95% better today. I get a few strange sensations every now and then but I no longer feel like and alien is trying to make its way out through my bellybutton.

The only complaint I really have is that my immune system is shot because of the lack of nutrients over the past couple of weeks so now I have caught my brothers cold (I hope that is all it is) and I feel like my nose is going to come flying off with each sneeze.

I am going to take my medication for a few more days and hopefully by Monday I will be able to jump back on track and give my all. I'm getting kind of sick of the medicine...I'm even having nightmares about it . Burned Sugar...Blah.

I know I will need to tweak my diet just a little so I never go through this problem again. More FIBER and more WATER.
Maybe move on up to rung 9 and have oatmeal for breakfast a few times a week, with some yogurt...yummy.

20 days to complete my exercise challenges if I start Monday...I can do it!
