    Re: It's not working

I would say make sure you are getting 1500 cals a day and that may mean adding more fat.

Your menu looks good. You could just be in PISS (Post Induction Stall Syndrome) Some folks have a couple of weeks after Induction when nothing happens no matter how good they are being. Then it breaks suddenly and you usually get a big whoosh of several pounds once your body finally decides to get with the program. Hang in there.

      Re: It's not working

Okay, today I started with the fitday food journal. I do take a daily multivitamin. I have not measured myself, but clothes are fitting the same.
Someone took a candid pic of me on Sunday and posted it on facebook and I was disgusted. Makes me not even want to leave the house.
Anyway, I'm thinking yhe journal may help. Even though I never actually cheat, I'm sure there are things I forget I eat. I also haven't actually counted my carbs to this point, I just try to eat as few as poss, which kind of makes moving to OWL impossible.
      I'm not crying yet today!
      Thanks again everyone.

That is likely your problem. What do you mean by "eat as few as poss"? As little as possible without your growling stomach bother the ones around you [I'm exaggerating, of course, but you get what I mean ] or as little as possible to satisfy your hunger? Not eating enough will interfere with your weight loss, as strange as you may find this.

Record your food from now on. Enter your yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's menu in FitDay and see where you stand with your carbs, fat, protein, etc. Your protein should be at around 30% and fat to approx. 65%. Then add 5 net carbs of vegetables to your menu and call it OWL. And keep tracking your foods!

          Re: It's not working

When I say as few as possible I mean, between the salad dressing w 1 carb per serving, the vegetables (only very low carb, high fiber), the carbs in cheese, etc. I just feel I'm probably getting close to 20 grams a day, so I've been afraid to eat any more than that, ie onions, tomatoes, etc. But, as I said, I started keeping track today, so we'll see....

Does anyone know if there is a way that FitDay can calculate net carbs?

FitDay does not directly calculate net carbs. But it calculates total carbs and dietary fiber, so to find net carbs you just subtract the fiber part from the total carbs.

It can't really. You can click on each food to see the nutritional label and subtract. You can look at the graph below where you enter your food and subtract the fiber.

You could use All Things Food and Diet - FatSecret.

Holy cow! I went to that site.

I didn't check out how to add and track foods there, but they let you look at various diets people are following and when they enter foods and what they entered. For Atkins, it's by phase. And a bunch of those who claim they on Atkins Induction are really not following the book. No wonder people have trouble following Atkins and it gets a bad reputation.

At sites like Fatsecret, it's best to not read too much in the forums! You're right ... there's a lot of loosey-goosey.

Thanks again all. I tracked all day on fitday, and will keep doing so. After a few days, I'll post my eating stats and maybe you guys can help me figure things out. I can't say enough how much I appreciate the people on this site. I was truly ready to give up, and now I feel like it's a whole new start....

I belong to various weight loss boards and a lot of people are doing whatever plan it is their way. And a lot of complaints about how their diet doesn't work followed by lots of bizzaro advice. And then they blame the diet plan and try something else...their way again. Bottom line is that they don't ever lose much weight. I do find good tips and recipes on those sites but it's not easy to find accurate info.

I think that's the main reason why I was so delighted when I found ADBB. The moderators here and so many of the posters really try to steer people in the right direction. I know some of these posts seem mean to newbies (I'm one of those mean posters too) but you really do have to follow instructions to get results. And I'm grateful that ADBB isn't one of those "eat whatever you want and oh poor baby you didn't lose weight" sites. I would never be having the success I'm having with Atkins if it was.

                            Re: It's not working

I agree, it is great to have a website like ADBB where we are all following the same version of Atkins. It is so confusing on other general lowcarb websites when people chime in with advice from the Atkins company website that contradicts or muddles the clear instructions in DANDR.

Things like 'you must eat 20 net carbs on induction' (when we know DANDR says 'eat up to 20 net carbs, most from vegetables'); things like 'eat 12-15 net carbs from veggies on induction' (when we know DANDR say 'you may eat up to 3 cups of veggies from the 2 induction veg lists'); things like 'exercising does not help you lose weight so don't bother doing it' (when we know Dr Atkins said 'exercise is not negotiable') and many other 'rules' that conflict with those in DANDR.

                            Hooray for ADBB
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

DANDR also says about eating your 20 net carbs that "most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables."

It says that BEFORE the cups rule (which is most likely a holdover from the earlier editions and the result of bad editing!).

Which is why DANDR can be confusing ... and conflicting!

No doubt that this eat 12-15 grams of veggies is from the ANA people or somewhere else where they just make up their rules . The book does not mention this at all. Three cups of veggies is the rule and that is what we are going by here. And yes no more than 20 carbs - so 18 would be just cool.

So glad you are feeling better about this Josiebeans. Go girl.
