    Hi

I'm a new member of this website, but have been reading it for the past few weeks getting motivated and inspired!

My baby is only 9 weeks old - and I started on Atkins when he was 5 weeks, when I had to stop feeding him myself.

My start weight is roughly what is was before I got pregnant ( I hadn't weighed myself in years). My current weight is from this morning, when I plucked up the courage to weigh myself - I'm really pleased with how it's going.

The main problem I'm having at the moment is the negativity from absolutely everyone about this WOE. According to most of them I'll be lucky if I don't die of kidney failure before Christmas, always assuming my arteries don't clog before this weekend!

I've read the book, and so I know the science but I'd really like to hear from people who's blood work has improved to reassure me. I know most of these people don't know what they're talking about - one person said 'Oh Atkins is a complete fad, and really dangerous' so I asked her which part of the book she disagreed with - she replied 'Oh I haven't read the book - but I've heard all about it'. Right.

Anyway, this is turning into a rant so I'll stop - just thought I'd say I love all the support you guys give each other on this forum and am pleased to be part of it now

    Re: New to forum

Welcome to the board and congratulations on your new baby. I have been at this since April and my kidneys and heart are better then ever. My only problem was a obstruction in my intestines but that wasn't from the diet (if done correctly).

This diet has changed my life for the better. I no longer fear that I will turn out like my grandmother and die at 59 because of diabetic related problems. I'm not going to go through menopause at 39 because of bad diet either (I have enough problems in that area).

I am smaller then I have been since starting puberty and I couldn't be happier. As soon as my body will let me I am jumping back on track where I left off and boy do I have some catching up to do. But it is so worth it.

You can do this, as can almost everyone else. Just have faith and believe in the magic of Dr. Atkins (I sound like a loon! HAHA!)

    Good Luck!

Hi Hatti! Welcome to ADBB. Congrats on your new baby boy and also on your weight loss so far.

I can't share any blood work experiences yet as I'm waiting at least a few months to get mine rechecked. I'm kind of dreading that appointment for pretty much the reason you stated: negative comments by people who don't have a clue.

I've tried arming myself with all kinds of information but these people do not want to hear it. Diet zealots they are and either you are not doing whatever diet they recommend or they are overweight themselves and are POd that you are successfully losing. Or both.

Anyways, I keep reading and learning and hope to be so well informed one day about Atkins that I won't back down when these vacuous contributors of dieting information bash my WOE.

p.s. Sorry...this was more of a shared rant. There are a lot of people here that will hopefully stop by with some helpful info.

Hi Hatti, The Spotlight forum is where most newbies introduce themselves. You may want to post there too to get a proper welcome.

            Re: New to forum

Congratulations on the new baby! There's lots of stories here from people who's numbers have all improved greatly by this WOE. Many have gone off their diabetic, blood pressure and other medications (with doctors approval, of course).

For me personally, my cholesterol dropped 50 points, my triglycerides improved, my bad cholesterol went way down and my good cholesterol went up. All why eating 60-65% fat. I feel tons better and my doctors approve, even my nutritionist (though she still wants me to eat more fiber and carbs, heh). My kidneys and everything else are in great shape.

There's alot of misinformation out there about fat consumption and about Atkins. The actual studies about the effect of fat in what we eat are fuzzy. While a low fat diet can be good for many, especially because it helps lowers calories, it doesn't always work well for everyone. One of the biggest problems with Atkins is that people do not do it right. ADBB is a great resource for doing things right.

Dangerous? Remaining overweight and eating poorly is dangerous.

Learning to change your way of eating, eating lots of veggies, etc, exercising and as a side effect, lose weight, now THAT is healthy.
