  • Any tips/suggestions for massive quantities of exercise?

I've gotten to the point in my weight loss where I'm starting to train for my main goal. I'm joining the military and will have a job that demands phenomenal fitness. I will be working out all the time, running at least 5-6 miles a day, doing several hundred pushups, situps, and as many pullups as i can manage. Will mix in biking, and need to find a place to start swimming. Is there anything in particular that I should do or tweak about my diet plan?
Lost 80 pounds, still about 15-20 to go.
    Thanks.

Good job for the 80 lbs!

The first thing you will need to do is eat more --- more carbs, more protein, more fat. Is your profile information correct? Are still on Induction?

I agree with Georgiana. If you haven't yet started through OWL, NOW is the time. You will need additional nutrition with your workout schedule. Moving to OWL makes sense to teach you how to keep your body fit and strong for life.

      GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
      GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
      FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Move to OWL phase if you haven't done so already.

Also did you do exercise while you were losing the majority of your weight? Because if you didn't, going from couch potato to running 5 miles a day isn't impossible, but you can't just do it overnight.

I went to high school with 2 guys who got into the service academies---one at West Point, the other at Annapolis. They spend our entire senior year of high school training---joining the cross country track team, joining the wrestling team, etc. By the end of the school year, they were more physically fit than they were at the start of the year.

Well.... since he won't be on OWL once he's in the military... really no purpose squeezing it in right before he goes in...

I agree it might be difficult to manage to climb the OWL ladder while on military training - all the more reason for doing it now when it is possible to choose his own food!
Once the OWL ladder has been climbed the poster will know what his CCLL is and which foods to avoidas well as having a much wider choice of foods - everything except sugars if he has a high CCLL and can cope with grains - which will make life much easier.
And with only 15-20 pounds left to lose there is no reason to stay on induction.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

He could eat ATkins style in the military---the days of water and hardtack are long over.

One of my bosses was in the Army Reserves and was deployed overseas to Germany, Afghanistan and to various forts in the US. He didn't have a problem staying on Atkins because there was always, bacon, eggs, steak, roast beef, roast chicken, pork, veggies, salads, oatmeal, etc. available.

The only problem I can forsee for Grover is during field maneuvers when he has to eat MREs, but at the fort mess hall, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

That is what I was thinking...there are choices, even in the military! There is no reason not to start OWL now.
