ok i have been meaning to make a post about this for awhile i just cant find any good info about it but whats everyones opinion on pork and shellfish?

has anyone here gotten perfect cholesterol levels while eating very large amounts of pork or shellfish? not just some bacon but i mean giant dinner hams

has anyone sufferd any ill effects from eating large amounts of pork or shellfish?

im guessing pigs that are raised with care and fed only clean food would not be as toxic as pigs who were fed garbage?

anyways heres a video of what some pigs eat

    Re: pork and shellfish

I eat pork and shell fish. I never eat a huge dinner ham, I have a slice.
I regularly eat ham, bacon, pork-chops, pork roast/loin, scallops, shrimp, etc. My cholesterol is fine.

I've been recently dealing with someone claiming that pork and shellfish are not as healthy as other meats. I read and read... but couldn't find anything convincing. The "they are not so clean" story doesn't hold, imo. Obviously, eating uncooked pork is not the smartest idea, but that's common sense.

"Giant dinner hams"? I'm not sure I'd call that the right way to do Atkins.

I eat pork a few times a week. A "normal" portion size for me is 4-5 oz. Shellfish --- not that often; for no other reason than it's price. My cholesterol numbers were fine last time I had them checked. But you might say that being only 21 plays a role in this...

has anyone sufferd any ill effects from eating large amounts of pork or shellfish?
Large? Like, in one meal? In Romania, pork is the meat most people eat. I never heard of anyone having health problems as a direct result of pork consumption (as long as the meat was well-cooked and tested).

If you leave a pig to roam around, it will eat garbage. And if you look at the stuff they are fed with (my grandparents used to have 1-2 pigs every year), it is not exactly the yummies thing you can think of either. But my whole family had eaten pork raised by my grandparents for at least 15 years, and none of us were ever ill from it.

Ziggy... you know me well enough to realize that it takes more than that for me to find someone's claims convincing. The guys who wrote those articles don't bring any proof for all the stuff they say about pork. It does not prove that properly cooked pork meat is less healthy than chicken, for example.

The good thing about the Internet is that you can find text (some of which is INFORMATION and some is OPINION) that will support ANY argument. Knowing something about the source or the author is generally a good idea!

The first article you mentioned says, "But a true Christian should only need one reason why not to eat this type of food because God prohibited it."

All well and good ... if you're following the laws of kashrut. There was probably good reason to avoid pigs at that time ...

I don't think you can say that pig farming is being done in the same way as it was when Leviticus and Deuteronomy were written though.

Why do you think soybean meal isn't "safe"?

                How are you defining "safe"?

                  Welcome to Soy Online Service

soy is very toxic and causes an estrogen effect

mothers who eat large amounts of soy while pregnet can have birth defects

Infants exclusively fed soy-based formula have 13,000 to 22,000 times more estrogen compounds in their blood than babies fed milk-based formula, the estrogenic equivalent of at least five birth control pills per day.

soy is not a food it is a drug but people who make and sell soy dont want you to know that

maybe cattle can filter it out of there system but pigs cant? thats what i was defineing as safe if there meat/fat is soy free when we eat it

Like Georgiana, I don't eat giant dinner hams. But I do eat a lot of pork and shellfish. I can't afford the grass-fed stuff, so I eat whatever I can get.

And unlike Georgiana, I am not 21. I will be 50 in April.

Here's the last 3 years' lipid panels:

                        Cholesterol, Total................128...............122........ ............115
                        Triglycerides.........................47.......... ......48......................49

                        VLDL Cholesterol....................9.................1 0......................10
                        LDL Cholesterol....................64................. 64......................62

My total cholesterol has risen a bit over the past 3 years, but that's mainly due to raising my HDL (the good kind).

Bottom line - I do not fear pork or shellfish.

Pork and shellfish get have a bad rep due to their fat content. However, both of them are high in unsaturated fat, making them "good" fat sources.

But if you are worried about what CAFO(concentrated animal feed operation) pigs eat--be equally worried what CAFO chickens and cows eat too. For that matter, be worried about what "farmed" fish eat!
