  • Low HDL

I had my bloodwork done a couple of weeks ago and I got the result a few days ago. Apparently, everything is great except for my HDL levels. They are supposed to be >60g/dl but I'm at 38g/dl. Any ideas on how to raise my HDL to normal levels?

        Re: Low HDL

What were your pre-Atkins HDL levels? If they haven't improved even moderately since you began your ATkins, then perhaps your current exercise regimen isn't effective for you.

Typically, since exercise is a part of the Atkins Diet, you should be seeing some improvement.

But again, review your exercise program. Perhaps you aren't exercising to your potential (ie: you never get into your target heart rate, you do the movements but don't exert much more beyond that, etc.)

I don't remember exactly what my levels were but they were about the same. I have been using my elliptical every day but I'm afraid I haven't been doing enough. I have a bulging disc in my lower back and two in my neck that makes walking a long distance almost unbearable so I only go for about 30 minutes at a time with little resistance. I will talk with my Doc to find out what other types of exercise will be beneficial without impacting my back.
